Took a trip from Fishkill to New Paltz to try Lagusta’s which has been on my list for a while. My daughter has been vegan for 5 years and I love chocolate and this was a perfect combination of our passions. We purchased a box of 8 truffles/bonbons, a chocolate bar, and two deliciously tart lemonades. My daughter was excited to have so many caramel options as she hasn’t had a good caramel in a long time. Their Mitzvah wall is awesome and the inspirational signs in the bathroom are, well, inspirational.

During my visit to Lagusta’s Luscious last fall, I had an extraordinary encounter with their chocolate confections that continues to linger in my memories. As a vegan for six years, finding delectable vegan chocolate hasn’t been an easy task, but Lagusta has managed to master it. I can’t quite recall the specific chocolates I ordered from my curated box of eight, but each piece was an explosion of flavor, decadence, and pure delight.

Ride the rail to trail from Rosendale (8 miles or so) stop here to rejuvenate. The teas are really good, though I’m usually a coffee drinker. The sandwiches are premade but absolutely worth it. The tomatoes in that sandwich will be well remembered. The staff are kind, asked them to pick a couple chocolates and she complimented our order perfectly. Nice! She picked the tahini melt away and cardamom caramel.

Ok, my wife is vegan, and I am not so when we came to this 100% vegan cafe. I was a little hesitant, but it was great! I had the pretzel croissant. My wife got the mushroom bechamel Danish. I would highly recommend Lagusta’s Luscious. AND they make their own chocolates in a wide variety of unique flavors, which we will bring home to try. AND it is woman owned and run.

Stopped from rail trail to get an Expresso. It was very bitter. Not good at all. I asked what coffee they used and the staff acted as if I was bothering them. It was busy but still. If I liked it I would have bought the coffee. They had three brands Stumptown, Máquina and one other. Very expensive.

Was disappointed that the sandwich of the day was sold out, and was a little surprised at the worker’s response to my inquiry about the sandwiches. A bit sarcastic, and uninterested, but maybe they were having a bad day! I have really been looking forward to coming here and trying some stuff out, still got a cookie, boxed Mac and chz, and a box of chocolates for my dad! All tasted great.

We rolled in at five minutes to closing. They not only took the time to make us feel comfortable but also helped us choose a completely affordable box of chocolates to take home; the chocolate variety is stupidly delicious. I recommend this place not only for the variety but also because it’s a tactile experience of what happens when creativity is supported and nurtured. Get your sweet self there. Lagusta’s is a local treasure. Hands down, best espresso drinks in town, accompanied by exquisite vegan pastries and chocolates. The vibe is friendly and relaxed, with a healthy dose of counterculture 🙂 Good tunes and a charming outdoor sitting area.
