Reviews
Location & Atmosphere
The location is definitely one of the highlights. Set right in the heart of Mont-Saint-Michel, the restaurant provides a lively view of the bustling street, and if you’re lucky enough to get a table outside, you may catch a glimpse of the bay. The interior is quite basic and has a bit of a dated, touristy feel. It’s not a cozy or intimate place, but that’s expected in such a high-traffic area.
Service
Surprisingly, the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Despite the crowds, our server took the time to explain the menu, smiled throughout, and even spoke multiple languages to accommodate international guests. The service was fast and efficient, which is a plus if you’re short on time. That said, some staff seemed a bit overwhelmed, especially during peak hours.
Food Quality & Presentation
Now, about the food — it’s nothing to write home about, but it does the job. We ordered an omelet and a dish of mussels with cream sauce. The omelet was soft but underseasoned, served with fries and a small salad. The mussels were well-cooked and fresh, though the sauce was on the thinner side. Presentation was fairly plain — don’t expect gourmet plating. If you’re craving high-end French cuisine, this isn’t the place. But for a touristy spot, it was fine.
Value for Money
One of the most pleasant surprises was the pricing. Compared to other restaurants on Mont-Saint-Michel (which are often overpriced), La Nouvelle Terrasse offers relatively cheap meals. For two main dishes and drinks, we paid under €40 — quite reasonable given the location. It’s not the cheapest in France, of course, but for a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it felt fair.
Accessibility & Extras
The restaurant is easy to find as you walk up or down the main street. Inside seating is a bit cramped, but there’s more space on the terrace. It’s not particularly wheelchair-friendly due to the layout and cobblestone street outside. Restrooms are available and were in acceptable condition.
Conclusion
La Nouvelle Terrasse won’t blow you away, but it offers a good value, quick meal in one of France’s most visited landmarks. The food is simple, the service is kind, and the prices are surprisingly reasonable for such a prime location. If you’re just looking to rest your feet, enjoy a drink, or have a basic meal during your visit to Mont-Saint-Michel, this is a solid choice. For more refined dining, consider restaurants off the island or book ahead elsewhere.
The food unfortunately was a Big let down. We had a soggy Crepe each, which literally left a poor taste. Hopefully they will raise their game a little, perhaps they don’t need to, with the volumes of people visiting the site, …perhaps they don’t care!
Food is not so good especially the profiteroles that I had ordered. The chou is like carton paper and no hot chocolate sauce. My first visit to this restaurant last year was not bad but this time is too deceiving.
