La Marotte deserves every single star. Set in a charming old house in a picturesque village, dining here feels like being welcomed into someone’s home. The cosy dining room sits beside an open fireplace and kitchen, creating a warm, intimate atmosphere, with an additional dining space upstairs reached by wooden stairs. Jack, the owner, shows his attention to detail, from the handwritten menus to the locally sourced produce and the varied, beautifully executed dishes (vegetarian options available). The staff are friendly, warm, and genuine. Be sure to phone ahead to make a reservation, it’s well worth it.

Our favorite restaurant in all of the Alps (and possibly all of France). La Marotte is incredible… It’s beyond charming, cared-for and thoughtful. Jack, the chef and owner has kept the original go-to dishes and then added his own incredible flavor like beetroot hummus and tarragon chicken. Before my wedding last year we had a small dinner with friends and family and it was one of the most memorable parts of the whole weekend. From the hand-written menu to the warmth of the space and the perfectly cooked meals – there is love in every inch of this place. Thank you Jack for a dinner we will never forget. 🙂

We came here for a group dinner and we enjoyed the warm and cosy atmosphere. I had the chicken liver parfait (good), the chicken and rice dish for the main (nice and hearty but could have been seasoned better) and the apple tartiflette (tasty).

We had a lovely last meal here with a group of friends before some left home after a great week of skiing! Recommended by our friend Kit back in Jersey! We were so glad we managed to get a table. Everyone loved every dish and it felt so cosy and lovely staff. We might be back again this week if we can!

Hard to go there without a reservation, as almost everywhere nearby. In general it was a good experience, the staff was very polite, however I’d expected more from the food. The chicken with cinnamon flavor was tasty.

I was absolutely excited about being able to get a reservation because from what I read online it was absolutely impossible to get a table as the restaurant is very popular so I was expecting an amazing authentic experience . Tres desolee was I after being served the food, I believe we were the last one to be served as looked like in my and my husband plate was served the leftovers, the steak mince was barely pink, the dessert was just a cheap version of an apple pie . I am sorry but that was the worst experience in the beautiful serre chevalier place .

What a lovely place! We had a late reservation at 21:30, but it turns out this is one of the usual timeslots. The owner welcomes everyone and gives an overview of the menu. The food is delicious and abundant. The staff is friendly and hardworking. Definitely recommend!

Love, love, love this place. Home cooked food in gorgeous intimate atmosphere … and the waiter (who I think is also the owner) is super welcoming and knowledgeable. Came on google to see if the restaurant was open in Summer too and just read a negative review (which has prompted me to write this one!!). I brought 10 friends in January and March and it was our favourite restaurant in Villeneuve both times! We’ll be popping by later today to reserve a table and hope you’re open this week! If not see you in winter!!!

We came here for dinner on Christmas Day. The food was superb.
It’s a really small venue who do a couple of sittings. They run a set menu. We had chicken liver parfait and a smoked salmon terrine to start. My partner had the steak tartare as a main and I had the plat de jour, which was a slow cooked to perfection. The deserts were also out of this world.
Would return and at 35 euros a head this was excellent value. One of the best meals I have eaten anywhere.
