I went here for today for Mother’s Day and was shortly disappointed. There’s barely 10 parking spots for you to park in, but we managed to find one. Upon entering we were greeted and asked how many. We replied 4. The waitress looked around and there were only 2 tables left that could seat 4 people, but they needed to be cleaned off. We didn’t mind waiting that’s fine, but of the 2 tables the waitress chooses, she picks the up against the wall where nobody is really together. The waitress had a hard time listening and understanding during any interactions. My mother was asking if they had a taco salad in a fried tortilla bowl and she had to get another waitress to figure it out, who understood immediately and explained it to her. I had to explain what kind of meat I wanted in my chimichanga 3 times and it was still wrong. The drink choices are very limited in the soda department and are canned at $2 a can. Most of the menu items were way overpriced, it was $12 for cheese dip with meat, which we felt obligated to get since the waitress gave us a basket of saltless flavorless tortilla chips with no salsa. We ordered it as an appetizer, but it came out 5 seconds before the rest of our food. My wife got the Choripollo which was pretty good. My daughter got the Birria ramen. I was SUPPOSED to have gotten a carne asada (beef) chimichanga, but instead got a carnitas (pork) one instead. My mother got the lunch tacos with beef. The cheese dip was cold within 5 minutes of hitting the table and was just a solid hunk of cheese. Even though I ordered carne asada and got carnitas instead, I wasn’t going to send it back with all the trouble we’d already had. The pork was so dry and there’s was no red or green sauce to be had. The best part of my plate was the rice and guac on the side which were really amazing. The rest was subpar and before you say “oh well maybe they were busy because it was Mother’s Day”, no, it wasn’t very busy to have as many issues as we did. The grand total for everyone’s dish, drinks and “appetizer” came out to $89 before tip which is a little ridiculous for the low quality food we were served. The atmosphere was okay, it was a little cramped with barely any room to walk between tables, and even though they had 3 big TVs, the only thing playing was TikToks they had made of their food. I will not be returning, between the cost and poor food, it’s just not worth it.

TL;DR : poor parking, small interior, overpriced bland food, poor service. Do Not Recommend

Absolutely loved our experience at LA Chona! Called in a takeout order and was greeted by incredibly friendly staff. Even though we didn’t dine in, I could see the restaurant has a warm and inviting atmosphere. I ordered the ground beef chimichanga and my husband got the beef fried flour tacos – both dishes were fantastic. What really stood out were their incredible sauces that perfectly complemented everything. The food quality and service have definitely made us customers for life. We’ll definitely be regulars here!

This is one of the best restaurants in town, the food is phenomenal. My only complaint is, when ordering to go, always check your order. 9 times out of 10 there are items missing . The last two times I’ve ordered 2 chile rellenos, beans and rice, both times the beans and one chile were missing. With the second time ordering I had also asked for the Mexican hot dogs (order of 3) @ $13, I only received 1. Other than that the food here is in my top 3 places in Wichita to eat.

The tacos were delicious especially the al pastor tacos. The fish taco, carnitas taco, and the carne asada (bistec) were pretty good but the meat on the bistec taco was a bit overcooked. What made it even better is that many different types of salsa were given such as red salsa, salsa verde, or even avocado salsa to eat with tortilla chips which was nice. However, the corn dip got messed up since it arrived soupy. Thankfully on the second try, the corn dip arrived with the correct consistency when we caught the issue.

My husband and I went here for date night. One of the best Mexican restaurants in wichita! The atmosphere was cute and cozy. Good music. Their menu is pretty large. It took us a bit to figure what to order. I order the Fajitas Gringo. My husband had the ChoriPollo. And for an appetizer we had the Birria Eggrolls. MUST TRY! All was delicious! Our waitress was great! Definitely will send people to try them out. We also did a take home order of La Chona Steak Fries. Our daughter said it was pretty delicious as well. We will be back soon to try their breakfast food.

I have never been disappointed when I visit. The moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm smile. The food was delicious and reminiscent of Mexico. My torta cubana tasted exactly like those I had in Mexico. The salsas were not overly spicy, but just right.

This place is the jewel of Mexican restaurants. Rosi is the sweetest and best server and we absolutely love her. The food is incredible and the prices are fantastic. We eat here at least once a week and I still try something new all the time. It’s our family’s favorite restaurant and immediate go to.

I ordered 6 tacos al pastor the other day with a large horchata. The tacos were more expensive than usual – I probably spent nearly 30 dollars for six tacos and a drink which is too much in my opinion. If the tacos would have tasted good, the price wouldn’t have mattered. However the tacos weren’t good.

The restaurant did give me a generous portion of meat which was appreciated, however the meat itself was tasteless and dry. I also ordered pineapple on my tacos which is standard for tacos al pastor, at least in Mexico. They served the tacos with canned pineapple; this is a culinary mistake because canned pineapple is preserved in sugar. The entire point of ordering tacos with pineapple is to add an acid to the spice. But since they didn’t use fresh, sour pineapple, I ate 6 dried tacos with overly sweet pineapple instead.

The horchata was good, but I didn’t go there for the horchata.
