My husband ordered the ramen, and the portion felt awkwardly sized. It wasn’t a full, satisfying portion, but it also didn’t feel like a side. Just kind of… in between.
The robot experience is fun and different, especially for kids, but you have to grab your drinks quickly because it moves fast and disappears. Thankfully, a staff member noticed and helped us, which we appreciated. Just be aware and grab your items fast.
Prices are very average. Don’t be fooled by the $3.65 per plate — it adds up quickly, and you’re paying that for only a couple of pieces. In the end, you’ll likely spend more than you would at a regular sushi place with full rolls.
One downside was the revolving belt itself. It was empty about 70% of the time. We actually had to ask the waiter how long it takes to restock because there wasn’t much coming by.
Overall, it’s not a bad experience, but it’s not a great one either. It’s okay to try once if you want something different, but it’s below average compared to other sushi places and not somewhere I’d regularly choose over a traditional sushi restaurant.
-Each plate is $3.50. Once you eat off the plate, you insert it into the drop down bin at the edge of your table, and the screen up top (see my pictures) counts the plates to make your total.
-You can use the screen to order some rolls and your drinks.
-Your drinks are initially brought over on a robot – For refills, you have to press “Call Server” on your screen.
-The screen displays a fun animation 5 plates in, and then every 5 after that.
-There is a keychain toy that drops at 15 plates, and then again at 25. It’s fun for kids!
The concept is great, however…
We read the top reviews before going here which call this restaurant out for being a “fun” place, and so we thought we’d give it a try…we regret doing so.
When you walk in, you check in on a tablet, which spits out a ticket for you to hold while waiting – The hostess then calls your “number” when a table is ready, “123, table ready!”
We were seated at the very back booth, which is the last table to see the revolving sushi belt before it goes to the back kitchen. Needless to say, we did not take very many plates as they were all empty! Make sure you ask for a good spot… See my pictures.
Additionally, while we were eating, two staff members came from the kitchen to the dining room having a full on conversation about doing something shady to the food and the “guests will never know”. What in the heck is that all about? Even if this is an innocent conversation about something, why would you have this as you’re walking into the dining room where the guests are?
We ordered from the screen at the table (it is mounted up top so you have to reach for it), which was a little weird to reach up to for someone with a shoulder strain, and the food was never served in a timely manner. In fact, the table behind us complained multiple times they never received their food even though the screen said it was delivered!
When you are ready to pay at the end, you press, “Checkout,” on your screen. It gives you two options: Mobile pay or server pay. We chose server pay. I had my debit card in hand, holding it out to the server, who promptly dropped the check on the table without saying a word, and quickly walked away. I grabbed the check and my debit card, and chased her down to pay the bill.
We do not think we will be dining here again as the service and lack of food is not worth the novelty.
The Gluten Free member of our family was frustrated because there is no easy way to know whether or not a dish that is skating by on the carousel is GF or not. By the time you see the sign, look at the menu on my phone and figure out whether I can eat it or not, the item is LONG GONE! The quick and easy fix is for the signs on the conveyor belt to have a sticker that says “Gluten Free”.
The member of our family who studied Japanese and holds a college degree in Asian studies appreciated the cultural experience.
The atmosphere was average. If the restaurant tables and areas had been wiped down better, I could have rated it much higher. We enjoyed welcoming every guest with a traditional Japanese welcome. Having our drinks delivered by a robot was a nice experience!
The food was okay. If you are a sushi fanatic, you will concur with my rating.
There is no rating for service because essentially you serve yourself. The human servers were helpful when they came around.
Overall, the food was average. The price reflects the “cool” experience.
