A volley of sunshine through the protesting leaves of a thousand sleeping coconut trees, casting designs of a quiet rebellion on brick floored courtyards. In a clay pot on a wood fire, mustard seeds crackle to wake up the village. The onions always go next, creating a cosmic sizzle. The sights and sounds of South Indian cooking are deserving of a riveting Epic. At Kumar’s, you can pick up a hardbound copy. No embellishments, fiercely authentic.

This plant-based eater (vegan) left smiling and satisfied after a delicious dinner at Kumar’s restaurant! While there was only one server/hostess, she remained attentive, kind and helpful for three tables! I appreciated her knowledge of dairy free/vegan/vegetarian foods available and the variety of options on the menu to choose from! The chutneys in the “Dosai” dish were mouthwatering, truly so fresh and pure! There were NO excessive oils nor stagnant tastes as some Indian restaurants have in their dishes!
I would recommend paying in cash if possible to earn the 5% discount. Additionally while the “masala dosai” was tasty, it was mostly just an enormous piece of fried dough. It was not at all filling and acted more as light appetizer/ fun experience. I’d recommend going for the pancake version “kal dosai” to eat if you are hungry.
A final reflection: the to-go containers were very securely wrapped in plastic clingwrap around the styrofoam containers. As an eco-conscious individual I couldn’t help but cringe at all the waste the packaging created. I would urge customers to bring their own containers if it is allowed. To the owners, please transition to biodegradable containers or ones that are at least recyclable!
A lovely experience though overall!
The star items were definitely the Ragi Sangati and Chicken Curry — honestly the best I’ve had in the USA. Another highlight was the okra, perfectly seasoned and crispy. The Ambur Mutton Biryani, Vijayawada Biryani, chicken slider, and paneer kola were all incredibly tasty as well.
For desserts, they had something called “Love Bites.” I’m not sure of the exact name, but when I asked the server, he said it was the chef’s special sweet. They also had a rose pudding layered with strawberry jelly, which was amazing.
The service was excellent too. Before leaving, we had a conversation with a lady there that felt very warm and homely.
Thank you, Kumar’s, for serving such wonderful food. Our family truly enjoyed it, and we will definitely be back again. Hope you continue to maintain the same quality.
The food and the service are exceptional!
I wish only two things – rice was better quality by preference. And bathroom maybe better upkeep.
Hands down, the BEST Indian food in this area. My friend and I were shoveling the buffet into our mouths as if it were our last meal on earth.
So many vegetarian and vegan options (love that everything is labeled)! They offer the most veg friendly options I’ve seen locally (especially in the buffet). Our server even walked us around the buffet pointing out vegan options for my friend. It was very kind and much appreciated!
Do yourself a favor and wear stretchy pants when you go!
I’ve only been here a few times, tried so many different menu items and everything is amazing.
My favorites are the tiffin items, idli, dosai, vadai, uthappam
The curries are also delicious. I really liked Avial.
Don’t sleep on the salads and desserts either. Everything is delicious. You can’t go wrong. Lots of vegan, gluten free, dairy free options and clearly labeled on the menu.
This is from my last few times at this place. First, they operate with extremely low staff! There was just ONE person to answer calls, to sit a customer, to take orders, to serve food and for takeaway orders. I had to keep waiting for the person to get free to give me a table. I was very upset but also felt sorry for the only guy running around for everything.
Now, lets come to the food part! The Biryani I order from here is sometimes so old that the rice becomes dry and hard like it is before cooking. Clearly implying that it has been very long since it was cooked and been reheated multiple times. Taste was bad and also gave me really bad stomach ache.
The Buffet here was equally bad! Naan was so dry that it was rock hard, not edible. They had Bhatura which was again dry and hard, and it even had the chole missing, really? The basic idly was left in the open to again dry out and had a very had dry layer on top, again signifying the poor management and the bad quality of their food. These are just some examples, the food was really awful in every aspect.
The restaurant interior is also very poorly maintained and has a very dull vibe.
Overall I would not recommend going here and definitely wouldn’t recommend eating here, you can get seriously sick and these people would still not give a damn! There is still some potential for this place to improve, but I didn’t see any change in more than a year and now I have lost hope.
