BEST Coffee Shop in the State of Hawaii 2022 — FOOD & WINE Magazine Koana is an artist-owned Specialty Black Coffee shop in the old Mountain View Village, halfway point between Hilo and Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. We serve a different style of coffee, unlike most espresso/sugary dairy based shops. At Koana, we have gathered the best selection of Hawaii Specialty Coffee from award-winning farms and roasters, premium locally grown and produced chocolate and tea to share with you via handcrafted pour over methods. We promote and support local farmers and producers, and our passion is to share their creations with our ohana. Come to experience what we have to offer from our island!

One of the best cups of coffee I’ve ever had! The kindness and hospitality of the owner, Brian, and the baristas Becca and Nikki made my morning! My husband and I loved it so much we came back before we left for the other side of the island. We had the Paradise Tropical roast iced, the Kona Medium-light roast, and the Ka’u Morning Glory roast! Every cup was smooth and delicious!

Coffee and tea enthusiasts definitely a must visit and taste! Curated tea and coffee flavors. We got white and oolong tea (BI grown). Pour over looked amazing, but we didn’t try yet. Pro Tip: get their hot chocolate shot and pair with one of the pour overs. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. Aloha

My partner and I were pleasantly surprised at the flavors of these drinks. They do take time to create but well worth the wait. Besides patience is a virtue. I got the special toasted marshmallow spiced mocha with a medium roast. Loved it, the sweet marshmallow blended nicely with spiced chocolate. My partner got the koana recommendation, he describes his drink as perfection, no dairy needed.

We just happened to be on our way to the east side of the island after hiking Volcano National Park and my husband found this amazing place. They brew their coffee in a very traditional way and have a lot of interesting items in their shop. I highly recommend adding this as a stop if you are in the area!
