Best. Poke. Bowl. Ever. I don’t think I’ve ever had tuna this good. You would usually expect just a thin layer of tuna on a huge bed of rice, but in this poke bowl, the amount of tuna seemed to be as much as the rice, and I LOVED IT! The price was great for the value. It was so good that we decided to get another one half way through the poke bowl, but it was sold out, so we got 2 other items, an octopus salad and a tuna roll. We literally inhaled everything in 10 minutes and forgot to take a picture of the whole meal. Everything was insanely good, and as a sushi/sashimi fan, I’d say the quality of the food here is way better than most mid range restaurants, with the price of takeouts.

Fresh and amazing poke bowl take out. They specialized in freshly made local Japanese take out food. I’ll definitely visit again.

Small Japanese takeout restaurant with super fresh poke. The poke is unbelievably fresh and seasoned to perfection. I had the poke bowl with spicy and shoyu poke that came with sushi rice and seaweed salad. They also had bentos & sushi available. The staff (cashier and cook) were very helpful. I absolutely recommend giving their food a try.

Umeko has become one of our regular fast stop in Hilo. Their bento selections and flavors lean traditional Japanese (meaning less deep fried items). Arrive before the lunch crowds for the most choices, but you can request items made to order with a short wait. Common bento items includes grilled salmon or saba, various chicken dish with rice and Japanese side dishes. There are also shirashi bowls and sushi/bento rolls such as unagi, Alaskan crab, California and others, it changes by the day. In the display case, there is a small selection poke and various Japanese side dishes. The staff always greets us when we enter and has made accomodations for allergies such as rolls without sesame seeds.

Such friendly staff who provided us with an amazing experience. The food was fresh, delicious, and authentic! The yakisoba was delectable and the chicken was seasoned to perfection. My boyfriend got some sushi rolls and can’t stop thinking about them! This place deserves more hype!

This is a take-out only shop. As far as I saw, they had about a dozen or so pre-made offerings to choose from. We tried the sashimi set, sourced directly from Japan, and the Inari poke. Both were 5 star quality fish.

I work down the street and finally stopped in this place. Employees were super friendly and welcoming, and sushi chef looked like he really knew what he was doing. I got a grab and go eel and avo roll and a salmon skin salad, totaling to about $16-17. Verdict: the food is divine. Freshest sushi I’ve had in Hilo yet. Will definitely be going back soon to try other menu items, including their fish selection, chirashi bowls, specials, etc. Looks next level. Very excited to have this place close by mahalo kitchen Umeko!
