Fine dining at its finest best in a place that appears to be a hole in the wall (without intending to go dine there you probably would walk past it quite easily) . Katsu raises the bar on Omakase eodame style sushi experience serving seasonal catch and in an exquisite manner.

After literally weeks of planning (including the one and only email from them which was a confirmation of our reservation), we showed up and were TURNED AWAY. They didn’t even seat us. Our entire party was stunned.

I went to Katsu on Feb.10th, and there was a fishbone in the trout sushi (if I remember correctly). I told the waitress and the chef, they just said sorry but didn’t give any compensation. I was expecting at least a free dessert or drink or waive the supplement dish fee to show the apology, but none of them happened. And I prepaid 20% tips, so there was no way to show disappointment. It was almost 5 months ago, but when I thought about that, I still feel very bad, especially considering the dinner is around $400/pp after all the tax and tips rather than a $30 sushi dinner.

Excellent Omakase. Each piece served was a masterpiece. The sake pairing was also perfect and served well paced. Worth a visit if you are into authentic Japanese sushi.

Katsu and Yuko are amazing. The food is perfect every time, yet every dinner is different. We feel like we are coming home each time we dine there.

Beautiful new omakase counter in downtown Mountain View currently in soft opening. An incredibly special and unique omakase, with a mix of nigiri and other small hot and cold dishes, all of the absolute best quality. Fish, uni, and roe all from Japan. Chef was kind and helpfully explained what we were eating. Unusual and lovely order to the meal, left feeling perfectly full which isn’t always the case with omakase. Every dish was inventive and wonderful – for example monkfish liver, lightly smoked salmon nigiri, shad with kelp, and torched barracuda. Thank you so much for having us!

Got a reservation at the soft opening and it was quite an experience, staff was very friendly and fish was excellent. I have had some (not as fancy) sushi in Tokyo before and I think the fish here was definitely better anything I’ve experienced before, although I don’t have any other relevant omakase experience to compare to.

I’m so glad a traditional edomae style sushi place opened in downtown Mountain View. This restaurant is very authentic, from the service and setting to the technique and courses you can expect. The fish is exquisitely prepared and served. This restaurant holds its own against the likes of Sushi Jin or Yoshimizu in the Bay Area. The traditional finishing courses are egg cake and matcha tea so don’t expect dessert! If you value authenticity and quality of pure sushi in all aspects (service, preparation, ingredients), you won’t be disappointed.
