This place feels different from other spots in the city.
First, the atmosphere is really immersive and real: beautiful decor, amazing bathroom design, super cool Japanese music (I’ve Shazammed a few songs). Everything about the vibes felt genuine and not pretentious at all. I can say the same thing about the staff
And of course the food was delicious. I’ve had spicy sashimi don and salmon tataki. Both were really good, and the tataki were sooo gentle. I can tell the quality of fish used at Kanpai Izakaya is supreme.
Overall, my bestie and I had an incredible time here, and we’ll definitely come back. We love the excellent blend of great quality food, cozy atmosphere and cool music ❤️

Went here awhile ago and was impressed but forgot to leave a review at the time.
I ordered the karage don, and it was incredible. The chicken was tender, and loved whatever sauce it had on it. If I ever find myself in Halifax again I will definitely make a return trip to this place!
Atmosphere of the dining room was excellent as well. Waitress was prompt and and very friendly.

First off, great vibe going on here. Island-style booths not against a wall are always fun, and there was just a lot of great cozy, wooden interior design vibes going on.
Food was very yummy, albeit the portions are definitely on the smaller side compared to other Japanese places here – at least for the appetizers. My main came with like 15 slices of pork cutlet, so no complaints there

I’m so happy that Kanpai Izakaya is now in Halifax! I used to dine at their Moncton location multiple times because their food was always consistently delicious — and I’m glad to say nothing has changed. The flavours, quality, and presentation are still top-notch.
It feels like a familiar favourite found a new home, and I couldn’t be more excited. Me and my boyfriend will definitely be dining with them again the next time we visit Halifax.

First time at Kanpai Izakaya and was not disappointed! Great food and service in a really cool dining area that makes me feel relaxed! The poke bowl, unagi don, karage and sushi were all excellent! Highly recommended!

I’m only giving the Omurice 4 stars because, it wasnt my favourite. I had been craving omurice for a couple weeks now, and this is the only one I could find being advertised on their Google menu in all of the maritimes, so it will satisfy the cravings for now until I return to Vancouver or Japan aha

We were in the area and felt like sushi so thought we would try Kampai Izakaya, and it fantastic. The food was fresh, the waitress was attentive and the atmosphere was bustling on a Friday evening. My wife and daughter both loved it and my daughter even asked if we could go back in her birthday. I look forward to trying other menu items. Keep up the great work

Easily among the very best Japanese restaurants I’ve eaten at in many months of traveling Eastern Canada. The izakaya vibe was legit, the service was stellar, but the food? It’s absolutely on point and rivals some of the best izakayas I’ve been to on the West Coast, NYC, and even Japan. I was actually surprised at how good the experience was after quite a few mediocre Japanese restaurant experiences in Quebec and the Maritimes. If you like really good Japanese bar/food experiences, don’t sleep on this place!
