I lived in the area when Josephine’s first opened, so I’ve heard about it for years and years. I moved away and then moved back about 5 years ago. Again, I kept hearing stories about Josephine’s, so I finally decided to check them out. I dined as a single male and I am now wondering if I was discriminated against because I did not have a lady with me.

My experience started off nice, I was impressed with the fire pit burning outside as I approached the entrance. Once inside, I was greeted by a hostess. Lucky for me they had a table available, because I did not have a reservation. Reservations are recommended.

The ambiance is nice, but it’s very dated and could use a serious updating. I also found the tables to be extremely crowded. They all were super close, which made it kinda uncomfortable. However, I understand they want to serve as many guests as possible.

I had studied the menu on line and basically knew what I wanted. Once I was seated I decided to have a glass of Pino Grigio. Big mistake. If I had seen the price of a glass, I would have not ordered one. The glass of wine was only $6.99 and it tasted like a cheap wine. Major disappointment.

My meal was good, but not up to all the hype they receive. The Lobster Bisque was steakhouse quality and very good. I also enjoyed my 1/2 Club Sandwich. They were not stingy with the three meats, (ham, turkey and bacon) and the winter tomato even gets a thumbs up. My Mystery Pecan Pie was average, but it still satisfied my sweet tooth.

The biggest disappointment was the service. I have received better service at greasy spoon. My server was rather gruff. She was always rushing and barely stopped long enough to speak to me.
After my food was served, I needed a napkin and as she was passing by, I requested one. She reached over to a rack and tossed a linen napkin back to my table. She then told me they had paper ones, if I preferred them. I declined saying, I preferred the linen.

I’ll go again, but next time I’ll be sure to have a female escort. I hate to say it, but I really believe I was treated differently because I was alone.

If you’re in the mood for a sandwich and soup, this is the place to be! The ham special was fantastic, and the roast beef and club sandwich did not disappoint either. Their extensive dessert selection was a great way to finish the meal. Does get very crowded so be sure to make a reservation.

We took my mom here on a Saturday for her 90th birthday and it was very busy, seating was a bit tight, and it was quite loud. Our food was okay. I thought the chicken salad was very salty and my least favorite of any chicken salad I have ever had, and my dad did not like his Philly that was a special of the day. My sister and Mom did like their clubs and side dishes. The deserts were deemed fabulous and looked it. This is a place you come for the atmosphere, dessert, and the shopping, more than the meal. And yes, my sister and I both bought items at the shop. The shop within the restaurant and across the parking lot are wonderful boutiques with eclectic and beautiful clothing. The items are a bit pricey but their quality is top rate. I highly recommend the shops and recommend the restaurant for the experience and the desserts.

Adorable and inviting decor. A nice mix of menu options. Lunch specials are well balanced and filling. Cocktails are fresh and bright. The pasta salad is so so good. Have visited multiple times. Service is great. Best to set a reservation. Seating is a little cramped in a few areas. I usually have a piece of pie and take another to go. lol. But serious. It’s that good! Walking around the shops after meal is fun too. Lots of cute and unusual items. I always end up buying something. Gorgeously decorated during the holidays. Even the restrooms are beautiful.

Today the Visitation Ministry from Southern Mission Missionary Church(East St. Louis) had our Winter Fellowship. Our server, Allison, did an Excellent job. All of our food was served at the same time. We did not have to wait long at all. Her patience was remarkable in taking orders and serving us. She constantly checked back to see if we needed anything. The food was delicious as usual. By the way the lobster bisque is outstanding!
It’s a person like Allison that would cause one to return to this establishment. Great job! Hope we get you or someone like you on our next visit.

Ladies day out–what a cute afternoon! Fred’s Shed was not as cute as the main gift shop, but the food was excellent. Gifts were expensive but we had fun walking around and looking. Very festive!

As a guy, it reminded me of a mani / pedi … Once you try it you are hooked! Don’t let the “Tea Room” name fool you, it’s a great place for a healthy, delicious meal – and it’s got shopping, gifts, fun stuff for browsing, and in the summer it’s flower Central!

What a great lunch with friends. Our server, Jennifer, was kind, helpful and efficient. The food was excellent. Best broccoli cheese soup I’ve ever eaten. Loved the creme brulee. Each of us thoroughly enjoyed our food and our time.

Everything was wonderful as usual! Both my daughter and my best friends daughter were born on January 7th. A ladies lunch at Josephine’s was the perfect way to celebrate!
