We stopped in while visiting Elvis’ birthplace and were not disappointed! Such a quaint restaurant with amazing staff that made us feel right at home. We tried the dough burger, onion rings and tots! All exceptional! They even cut our dough burgers up so we could each try some- one plain and one with pickle, onion and mustard. The Elvis booth wasn’t available at first but as soon as it vacated, the waitress let us go over and sit, taking our picture… again, service, food and atmosphere were so wonderful! Highly recommend adding this stop to your road trip of Elvis!

Did not disappoint! Had a fantastic old diner style cheeseburger, and onion rings. This place has character without being touristy. I can imagine it looks almost identical to what it did in 1956 when Elvis had a cheeseburger and RC cola here. Very friendly waitstaff and great lunch spot!

We came here as part of our road trip. From Georgia to Kansas and back again. We stopped into Tupelo for a few nights and a day to experience the Elvis birthplace and a few other places around that he went to, including Johnnie’s. The staff were so friendly and I felt welcome. It was a very hometown feeling. That was the best cheeseburger I have ever had. I can see why it was Elvis’s favorite from here too. I will certainly stop by here again on my next trip to Tupelo.

Very small, special diner. Cash only. Dine in booths can accommodate two or four. Maybe a 10 or so booths. Great diner menu, and friendly local people. Food was fresh and fantastic. You can also drive in and order and take food to go for a picnic at Elvis birthplace park. Enjoyed seeing Elvis’s booth and will definitely be back.

The dough-burger and onion rings were recommended by several local folks we talked to so we had to try it! It was delicious. But the onion rings were the absolute best onion rings I have ever tasted! The onions were so soft and perfect! See if you can sit in Elvis’ booth! That is a must try if you’re in the area!

Burger was okay, bun was a little stale. Onion rings were out of this world real and delicious. Okra good. Very clean. At height of Dinner, bathrooms were immaculate–with WARM water. How many restaurants can admit they have warm and not just cold water in the bathroom?!

I was visiting from Iowa and had to check out this iconic drive in. As a restaurant owner of 30 years, I notice a lot of things when I visit an eating establishment. What impressed me the most was the waitress. She was professional, yet also personable. She was fast and efficient, taking care of the whole front of the house by herself. She not only took the orders and served the food, but also bused the tables and ran the cash register. If only all employees displayed the work ethic she did!
Oh, and the food was good, too!

I can’t imagine a trip to Tupelo without a visit to Johnny’s Drive In. We ate inside, but there is outdoor and in car dining as well. I can just imagine Elvis eating here. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. The food is good and the decor is simple wonderful.

True Americana
The dough burger was not bad. It reminded me of a salmon patty in the texture and consistency. Prices are quite reasonable and the staff very welcoming. The crowd was a good mixture of locals and Elvis tourists. Worth checking out when you are in the area.
