Joe Allen

Social Profile:

In May, 1965, Joe Allen opened the restaurant that bears his name. That same year, the cast of the ill-fated show Kelly gave Joe a poster of their show. It ran one performance, and they thought it should hang, well, somewhere. Since then, it’s become a Broadway tradition for those unlucky flops to adorn our walls. Everyone remembers the hits, but we revel in the flops. Our menu changes daily, although certain favorites are always available, and while the service is informal, it does not sacrifice professionalism. If you’re looking for dinner before the theater, after the theater, a quick drink, or a quiet business lunch, you simply can’t make a better choice.

Snug, classic tavern attracting Broadway patrons & actors with American comfort food & cocktails.

Five starts for the service, four for the food, and three for the drinks. Stopped by after a broadway show starving. The food came out super quick, the server was great. The side car cocktail was probably the worst I’ve had, very sour. The atmosphere is cool, old-timey New York.

Always one of my favorite spots pre theater if I can find a seat at the bar.

Love the food and atmosphere! Recommended from an older diner of a local restaurant, Juniors, once he showed me a pic of the Banana Cream pie I was interested, stopped by for lunch, had the burger that he recommended, one of the best burgers I’ve ever had, the beef was the best quality, fries were good , banana cream pie was worth waiting for , service was ok, although I could have used another drink during the meal , I really wanted to come back for dinner but didn’t have time , hope to in the future, thank you !

Lovely place, service was fantastic (our server was amazing!) and the atmosphere post show was great. They checked before our reservation whether we were coming after a show, which I thought was a nice touch. My only niggle was lack of choice for myself on the menu. OH chose steak but I just wanted something light as it was nearly 10pm so ended up with a salad…which was OK but pricy for what it was. Small bites would have been appreciated.

We stopped in here after a show because everything else was closed on a Sunday night. This has a casual pub feeling with a cool broadway vibe. The service was friendly and very helpful with good recommendations. The drinks were well done and the presentation was thoughtful. The guacamole has a different spin on it but still had a good flavor. The steak and fries were good too. Over all it was a nice experience and had an affordable price point too.

We had a wonderful pre-theater dinner here, sitting at the bar which was the best seat in the house! The food was delicious. Ordered the roasted stuffed quail as well as the burger. Great flavor and presentation; friendly staff. Very strong drinks too!

5 star everything. My favorite restaurant to eat at. It’s my number one in any state here in the US! Joe Allen is on my list the second I step foot in NYC. The people that work here are so kind, and I’ve come enough to know them by their names! I truly cannot recommend a better place to have the best food with the best service and best quality.
