Nightclub turned restaurant during the day. Food was very good with good portions and in my opinion, well priced. I recommend the Lechon platter.

Restaurant is inside an old night club LA Luz lounge. Don’t be fooled by the building, the food is really good. Best Puerto Rican/Dominican food you can get in San Diego. Owner is very nice

Been here for 3 years and never knew about this hidden gem. I just thought it was a night club. Don’t be fooled like I was lol. Food had more salt than I’m used to but it was still delicious.

Came excited to try some Puerto Rican food. I have had some before but never been to a restaurant for it. We walked in around 11:30am and no one was around so we walked to the back and they bartender asked if we were placing an order, then a women from the back came out and we asked if we could dine in and she said yes we can sit anywhere. She brought us our menus and waters and shortly after we placed our order.

It’s very hard to find a genuine Puerto Rican place to eat in California. But you know what, I found one. We waited a bit, but it was worth the way. I will be recommending this place. The food was very good.

I’m from Chicago and I used to go to the Borinquen restaurant there. Since I’ve moved, it has been really hard finding places that serve the jibarito sandwich. I stumbled upon Jibarito de La isla online and had to give it a try! I got the Jibarito Plate with steak. Absolutely amazing, so flavorful, and tasted just like what I remember when I would get the Jibarito in Chicago. Was a great experience and I can’t wait to come back!

If you’ve had Caribbean food, you’ll know that you will leave completely full and possibly rolling out of the establishment. If you haven’t before, you’re missing out. This is a mixed Puerto Rican and Dominican place. We don’t live in the area, and used to go to a place in downtown SD, but I guess that place closed down. In any case, it’s set inside a bar/nightclub called La Luz. I’m happy to have made the extra trip from the SD airport to Bonita to try the food because it didn’t disappoint. The pollo frito and arroz gandules plate was seasoned perfectly, the mofongo (which I came for) hit the spot with the super savory shrimp, and the appetizer plate had nearly everything a Dominican child would delight over. I meant to bring my Dominican bff with us, but they weren’t feeling well, so I brought them the chicken and rice plate, and they were so happy to taste home even for a little bit. California is not known for it’s Caribbean food (maybe some Cuban options), but we’re damn lucky with what we do get out here. I hope to come back some day soon with them. Maybe stay for the evening for some bachata and drinks.

I’m surprised I didn’t know about this place before. It’s a Puerto Rican themed restaurant with actual natives who work there and the vibe is very nice . I’m definitely going back to check their night life scene on the weekend when time permits. The restaurant is nice, with big screens to watch any current games and eat, drink and be merry!
