I’ve known about Jazz’s Lubbock Kitchen for many years and decided to give it a try.
Went around 11:30 am, just opening.
I was greeted by a Very nice young lady and stated I want an order to go. I went over the menu, which looked extensive ,and since It was my first visit I decided to keep things simple. I ordered the half order of fried Oysters, Red Beans and rice with Andouille Sausage and a side of Dirty Rice.
The order came quick with an Excellent Attentive server. Upon opening my to go containers. First was the Fried Oysters. Turns out it was a a full plate with Fries, Hushpuppies and coleslaw. I thought it would be just the Fried Oysters. However, ♂️… The Oysters out a Can, then Fried were Overcooked, chewy , rather Tough with most of the Cornmeal batter cooked off and with that. It had the Canned Fried oysters looking like Fried Chicken Gizzards. I really didn’t know oysters could be Tough and Chewy that way …
The Coleslaw on the plate had a Red cayenne spice look to it with dark colored pieces on the ends of the cabbage .. Did Not Taste the Old-Slaw!!
The Crinkle cut fries used were somewhat under cooked and No Ketchup offered to mask the sogginess of the fries. With Absolutely no Seasoning on the fries. The hush puppies looked good but I didn’t try.
The side of dirty rice was simple Cooked rice with Tony Chachere’s seasoning and a dash of parsley. The rice didn’t have any of the Trinity veggies ie: onions, bell peppers or celery or any type of Meat in it. No Flavor at All!! Was it called Dirty Rice due to Ungloved hands that Faked it, I mean, Made it ♂️..
The “Red Beans” and Rice. WOW. Why would you label a dish as such when in fact, what was used are Pinto Beans and not Red beans or Kidney beans, over a bed of Tony Chachere’s seasoned rice with Boiled, thin sliced, Cheap Andouille, I mean An-Foolie Sausage placed on top of the Concoction ♂️… And somehow , they tossed in the corner of the to go plate a pair of Hushpuppies to top off the Creation.Management, that Wouldn’t save the plate.
My question is to the Kitchen Help.. Have any of You Guys Ever Eaten Cajun/Creole Real Food in Louisiana? Ever been to Louisiana? Know someone in Louisiana?
Calling the Slop Kitchen Cooks Trash would be an Insult, an Insult to Trash!!
In closing, there are quite a few YouTube Tutorials on how to Cook/Make Cajun/Creole Dishes. Heck, Management, why don’t you guys Hire some of the TikTok Louisiana Influencer Cooks as Consultants to help Teach Yall what some type food you guys are Trying to offer as Edible Lousiana Food.. Per this review, I only tried, really Tried the Basic things on their Menu. The $30.94 spent worth of …. Never mind! Went to The Garbsge. Lol, Not the Trash Jazz Kitchen, for Clarity.
The food was amazing! The sweat tea was perfect. Honestly, I couldn’t ask for a better meal. Cajun food is amazing when it’s done right, and this place does it very well!
The stuffed catfish I had smothered in crayfish Etoufee and man was it good.
The stuff zucchini was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The stuff was so good we had to mop it up with a little bread!
The gumbo is perfect! Great flavor, perfectly seasoned, and you get a little of everything in it.
The crayfish etoufee outstanding!
You know, being so far away from Louisiana, I didn’t think we would find Cajun this good in Lubbock, but I’m glad we did! I would highly recommend coming here and eating!
