I was driving down the street when I saw their signage and made a U-turn. Jamaicaway is located inside the Nashville Farmer’s Market. It’s a restaurant but you can also get some bulk Jamaican groceries too. They have so many vegan-friendly options for sides and mains. They even had some vegan desserts. I was impressed!

The entrees were clearly marked V for vegan and VG for vegetarian. Their menu descriptions also took the guesswork out of determining what proteins were used. e.g. Soy Chicken, Curry Tofu, Jerk Seitan. This also helped me pick, as I am trying to avoid gluten.

I was informed that all of the vegetable sides, except for anything with cheese, are vegan.

SPICY JERKED SOY CHIKN (vegan) –
I ordered a large plate so I could have leftovers. Both the small and large plates come with two sides, but the portion is bigger with the large. That being said, the portion was huge! The Jerk Soy Chikn was good (not spicy).

I paid for an extra side so I got rice and peas, greens, and cabbage. The rice and peas tastes like it’s made with coconut milk. It was some of the best rice and peas I’ve ever had in the USA. The greens and cabbage were very good as well, but the rice and peas were top tier. I went back and got 4 additional sides of it before leaving Nashville.

VEGGIE FRIED CHIKN (vegan) –
Made with soy. Coated in a seasoned batter and served with mango chutney. Delicious! I loved that chutney!

I got a side of greens beans too. They were just ok.

I tried the Pineapple Ginger juice. It was good and the ginger was strong. But Riddim n Spice’s has better overall taste and both the pineapple and ginger taste fresher there.

When I told them I was traveling 4 1/2 hours they were nice enough to package my food in travel friendly containers.

I’d love to try more of their vegan options, so I’ll be sure to run it back the next time I’m in Nashville.

This is a very popular restaurant in Nashville Farmer’s Market due to their appearance in Food Network’s show Diners, Dine-in and Dives hosted by Guy Fieri. We went around Friday noon and saw a lot of visitors in line to get their dishes. It is mainly a takeout spot with dining area available in the common hall.

The menu has a lot of small dish and appetizer items. The has chicken, meat/fish and vegetarian options that also comes with 2 sides. There are about 13 different sides available to pick from. Entrees come in 2 sizes, lunch and dinner, the latter being more pricey. Meat/fish entrees are much higher price but rest of the menu has reasonable price.

We ordered the oxtails with beans and curry goat with mac n cheese. It took them about 7-8 minutes to have the order ready. Oxtail was so delicious, the flavor and seasoning all came together so well. I didn’t like the goat curry as much. The meat seemed like lamb. Also the curry smell/flavor was too strong. But all the side dishes were good. Overall it is a decent place to try out some Caribbean food.

The chicken was flavored nicely but was dry inside. The greens were delicious. The Mac n cheese left a little something to be desired. No seasons visible on the sides-had to add pepper.

The restaurant was showcased in Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives by Guy Fieri. I was super excited to try it.

I got oxtails and veggies. It’s a big portion and fulfilling. The oxtails were flavorful and tender. Easily pulled apart. Veggie was ok. There are many other proteins and side to choose.

The line moves quick. There are many tables/seats in the food court. Overall a good place for Jamaica food.

My food was so so so delicious. I ordered the oxtails with cabbage and plantain no carbs lol. My oxtails feel off the bone and was able to easily get off with a fork. Make sure you try a Johnny cake and dip it in your gravy. Mmmmmmmmm

So many delicious options!!! We tried the spinach and cheese patties, which were perfectly filled and seasoned with a delicious light and flaky crust, and the spicy jerk tofu with collard greens and plantains. The spice level way perfect and the peppery, rich gravy was so delicious with perfect tofu patties, peppers and onions. All the veggies were meat free and it was so hard to pick just two, but the greens were delicious and the plantains provided a nice sweet treat to end our meal.

Every time I’m in Nashville, this place is a must stop. The friendly smiles of the staff, the huge portions of food and a great price point for the quality of food. This restaurant is in the food court which means while eating this delicious food, people watching is entertaining. Stop by this restaurant, you won’t be disappointed.

Ordered curry goat and ox tail with white rice and collard greens. Both meat dishes are very tender. Rice is to the mushy side (it’s not a complaint by the way) and the greens taste good as well. Paid about $45 with 3 drinks. On a side note I originally wanted the whole red snapper but they are actually made to order so it’s gonna be a little wait. So maybe I will try next time. Overall I really enjoyed the food, place is clean, and the service was nice. Should come try it if you are in the farmers market.

It’s true, I checked it out because the FoodNetwork did, but while standing in line at the Nashville Farmer’s Market, a local convinced me I had made the right choice. Staff member Gina let me taste one of the Vegan entrees and that nailed it down. I had the BBQ “Chikn”, Yellow Rice and Collard Greens, which were so tender and seasoned just right! I added a bag of Plantain Crisps and water. Because I was wearing a “Roll Academy” apron from a local food workshop vendor, I received a nice discount on my purchase! It was a first for me to taste Jamaican cuisine. A great experience!
