“I leave it up to you.” Dining at Izakaya Miyo is a delightful surprise especially since you need to totally trust your personal chef. In this case three people prepping and cooking. Hilo Chef Skylar and his assistant Seven were very personable and they took the time to let us know what they creatively prepared. It helped that we decided to take the five o’ clock seating and so the restaurant was was free from too much distraction. I don’t remember if any of the dishes had formal Japanese names but nevertheless, each dish was artfully prepared and skillfully plated. Each dish has its own taste experience. Having your chef explain the detail that goes into each dish makes each bite a more pleasurable experience. Does it take a Japan trained chef to prepare this kind of eye popping, delicious food? We were not disappointed in the least and it was fun to talk to the chefs while were dining and not have to make any decisions about what to order next. Omakase! I leave it up to you.

Pretty subpar experience both with taste and presentation. The beef teriyaki didn’t really have any flavor and we had to ask for sauce. Cocktail was kinda lame too. Meh for the price.

Huge menu. Husband got the poke and loved it. I got the mushrooms on a sizzling platter without butter cuz I’m vegan and it was super tasty. I also got the cold tofu which came with a really yummy sauce and we shared the cold soba noodle with veggies and it was also fantastic!! The bell peppers were weirdly extra flavorful!! This place definitely surpassed expectations!!

Ok it’s really confusing when you come in. On the left is a low end Japanese spot, on the right is a high end Izakiya style place that also has a omakase option with reservation. We did Izakiya food and it was really amazing with very few missteps. Great cocktails and food, but they need a carb option at the end like a true Izakiya (rice or pasta dish). Overall an amazing experience that needs to sort out its logistics.

The owner is amazing. He was so polite and well mannered. It’s really hard to find manners like this man has. Thank you so much Louis.

This place is terrible. They confirmed our reservation for 7:45 and told us the kitchen would be open; however, when we got there they told us the kitchen was closed and turned them away! We specifically confirmed that the kitchen would be open. They said they got busy and closed the kitchen. Who closes the kitchen when things get busy and you have confirmed reservations coming up. Terrible and unprofessional!
