Absolutely incredible! The owner came up to us and asked if we had been here before, when we said no, he told us he would bring us the “worst thing on the menu.” He brought out a Taco Camellitos and it was absolutely delicious! I told the owner I was a vegetarian, and he told me I would have the Chiles Rellenos, I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was FANTASTIC!! The owner picked out Pollo Mariposo for my boyfriend. He said it was the best chicken he ever had, so I took a bite, and then another! I haven’t eaten chicken in years and this meal might convince me to eat meat again! The owner then brought us a cake that had a mousse and sweet potatoes. Again, absolutely amazing! I would never have picked it off the menu to try (a sweet potato dessert?-not for me), but I am so glad he brought it for us to try! We will definitely be back!

Oh my word. I will never go to another Mexican restaurant again. This is the place to go. I have never met staff so friendly or accommodating in my life before. I wish I could give them more than 5 stars.

The food and service were very good. Disclaimer we’re from the other side of the Mississippi so our dishes vary a bit, so take that info account when reading my review. I ordered arroz con pollo, which is a largely different dish. I’m used to chicken, rice, onion, cheese sauce and tortillas. What arrived was chicken, onions, rice and a mole sauce. The server saw the dismay on my face and quickly offered to make me something else. I went with the chicken quesadilla, which was delicious. Otherwise, everyone else got exactly what they expected. We had 2 tacos tapatios, one steak, one pork. Perfect! Tacos camellitos that were very flavorful and filling. It was odd to us that there was no melty cheese sauce for dipping our chips in, but alas, another regional difference. For dessert we had a chocolate lava cake, mango cheesecake and a flan. All were perfectly portioned and delightful. The service was impeccable. I might suggest you make a reservation. Seating is area is small during the winter months but they do have a giant patio that likely doubles their capacity.

Incredible food, nice and clean restaurant, cozy casual atmosphere, excellent service, delicious and affordable drinks. Did I mention the incredible food?! The tortillas are outstanding and like nothing I’ve ever had in KC. This place checks every box when it comes to dining out. We talked about our next trip back on the car ride home. The best authentic Mexican food in town!

We always love coming to Ixtapa. The owner is very attentive and entertaining. He educates everyone on the history of Mexican food and what is wrong with common Mexican food topped with gross yellow cheese. Everything they make is so fresh and delicious. It tastes like you are at your friend’s house and their mom or grandmother is in the kitchen cooking up something truly authentic. My favorite is the fish baked in the foil with vegetables- not something you would typically think of ordering at a Mexican restaurant, but it’s so light and refreshing, I promise it’s the right choice. We also love the Pork Oaxaca, Pollo chapala, and any of the specials.
