Our family of five visited Iron Cactus Mexican Restaurant for lunch while in Austin and we were very pleased. Had pollo relleno, chicken fajitas, combination chicken and steak fajitas, build your own tacos for our son and a cheeseburger for our other son. We also ordered the table side guacamole and had a few drinks. We all liked our food and were pleased. Service was a little slow but we were not in a hurry and the waiter was very friendly. We definitely recommend a visit here. Appeared clean, bathrooms were nice, cool atmosphere.

Stopped by for an early dinner, hadn’t been here in YEARS! Lucked out and got a window seat, downstairs. Great for people watching. The menu was great – several tempting options in each category. I just went with the Mexican meatloaf and I’m glad I did. I got two pieces, topped with a sweet and slightly tangy sauce and the meat was fantastic. It also came with mashed potatoes that had jalapeno and bacon in it, and maybe cheese. Anyway, it was a respectable portion and so tasty. The entree usually comes with Mexican corn but I felt like there was already enough Mexican on my plate so I requested a substitution to eliminate some of those carbs. They brought seasonal veggie, which was asparagus, six thin-average size pieces. It was good. The tables are comfortable and not too close to each other. There wasn’t a crowd thankfully but I noticed several upstairs on the balcony.

It was all going great until the cockroach. Food and service were on point. As we finished our meal my daughter sitting next to the window in the front of the restraunt froze in horror. I looked over and saw a cockroach climbing next to her on the window seal next to her. Myself and my daughter got up and walked out and my wife informed the staff. No offer of a discount or better yet “I’m sorry about the cockroach at the dinning table.” Unfortunately the cockroach ruined the wonderful fathers day dinner and we will not return.

Awesome outdoor patio with a view of 6th street. Table side guac (if they don’t run out of avocados ). Good place for work events, usually there isn’t a wait. Food is fine. Drinks are better. Wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here.

The server and establishment itself were very nice. The chicken enchiladas were disappointing, as it tasted microwaved. The beans were runny too and I wasn’t thrilled with my drink choice as there was too much sour mix.

We chose the place for family dinner and we had a bad experience. As for the food, the cheese with brisket and fajitas is good, as are the margaritas and mojitos. The rest was horrible, the shrimp enchiladas were hard the tortilla, the guacamole that accompanies the meat did not look fresh, we asked for charros and corn tortillas, which they brought the opposite. We ordered 3 orders of chicken tenders for children and only 2 arrived at the table, the third took 20 minutes to be brought. We had to ask the waiter for cutlery more than 2 times because at a table of 8 people only 3 had been left. It seems like a joke but it’s true, so the service was the worst of the night. I do not recommend the place
