Antonio Grande achieved his dream by opening his first restaurant, the Bel’vedere, in 1976 with his wife, Clara. The couple worked to achieve their primary goal, introducing authentic, gourmet Italian food to Americans outside of the traditional fare of spaghetti and meatballs. The Bel’vedere was so popular, the couple needed a bigger space; behold the inception of Il Capriccio in 1984. Ambiance is paramount, when you dine at Il Capriccio, you feel right at home. Fresh flowers, gentle romantic lighting, chairs you can sink into and live pianists make for an unforgettable experience. Proper dress is required. No shorts, no t-shirts, no athletic wear, no hats.
Upscale Italian place offering modern high-end fare in a formal setting with live piano music.

Service was excellent. The only downside for me was that the portion is on the much smaller end for the high price. Would still return and recommend checking it out!
Highly recommend calling in to make a reservation.
Amazing is an understatement, I do not know where to begin!
Food, service, atmosphere and hospitality were all 10/10. Marcus, our waiter was great, he went above and beyond and was very attentive.
They made my mother’s birthday dinner very special. I cannot wait to return and try other menu items. Everything was delicious. Il Capriccio is a gem that gives you that old school yet modern feel of Italian fine dining in North Jersey.
We arrived for our reservation and waited about 20 minutes to be seated, but it was far from an inconvenience. Their elegant waiting area is designed as an upscale bar, complete with a warm atmosphere, plush seating, and top-tier cocktails—making the wait feel more like a prelude to the experience.
For dinner, we ordered the filet mignon wrapped in prosciutto and the New York strip steak. Both dishes were absolute perfection. The filet was tender and flavorful, with the salty crisp of prosciutto adding a delicious layer of richness. The strip steak was cooked exactly to order, juicy and robust, with every element on the plate beautifully composed. Presentation was just as impressive as taste—everything looked and felt refined.
To end the meal, we had the warm apple dessert, which was the perfect cozy touch. Sweet, spiced, and comforting, it brought the whole evening to a satisfying close.
If you’re looking for an upscale dining experience in New Jersey—whether for a special occasion or just a sophisticated night out—Il Capriccio is the place. From the classic ambiance to the expertly prepared dishes, it’s a restaurant that makes you feel like every detail matters.
