The Chicken Katsu with Curry stole my heart—crispy, juicy cutlets draped in rich, savory-sweet curry sauce. Craving heat, I mentioned it to the staff, and they worked magic, adding a chili dust that brought a fiery kick without masking the dish’s soul. It was excellent. The macaroni salad side, creamy with a little tang in every bite, was the perfect bonus.
Hula Pot’s warm service and wallet-friendly prices make it a must for any traveler. Mahalo for the island vibes in Idaho!
For the main dish, I ordered the beef flank hotpot with rice—absolutely delicious and full of rich, comforting flavor. To finish, we had the matcha pie, which was the perfect but not too sweet ending to the meal.
The restaurant itself is spotlessly clean, the staff is incredibly friendly, and the service is top-notch. Everything from the food quality to the hospitality made the experience memorable.
If you’re looking for a taste of authentic Hawaiian cuisine and warm island hospitality, Hula Pot is definitely the place to go. Highly recommend!
We started with the crab rangoons, which were perfectly crispy and served with a delicious tangy sauce.
For my main dish, I ordered one of their signature hot pots with short ribs and mushroom broth, which was incredibly flavorful and comforting. I also tried the somen salad, which was fresh and a great complement to the hot pot.
Once again, the food quality, flavor, and service were top-notch. The restaurant is welcoming and the staff makes the experience feel very family-friendly.
If you’re looking for authentic Hawaiian cuisine with great service and a welcoming atmosphere, Hula Pot is the place to go. I will highly recommended Hula Pot to all of our North Idaho Inn guests! –
We both ordered the kalbi ribs and got tonkatsu ramen for my daughter. We asked if the broth could be made non-spicy. The server said she’d check. It came back as miso with no explanation. My daughter liked it, so that worked out, but it wasn’t what we originally asked for. We also asked for the ramen toppings on the side. They came fully assembled in the bowl. When we mentioned it, we got an “oops, I forgot.” That was the end of that. No fix, no comp, it wasn’t what we ordered and it wasn’t how we asked for it. It took about 30 minutes to get our food and my daughters order was about 10 minutes longer.
The pork tasted old. Spoiled Old. The eggs were fine. The kalbi ribs were just okay, which is impressive in the wrong direction because kalbi should be sticky, charred, sweet, savory, caramelized goodness. These felt like they stopped cooking emotionally halfway through. They mentioned sauces, but flavor-wise it felt like someone forgot to invite them. It needed another element on the plate. like a cucumber salad or a coleslaw or some sort of vegetables.
The mac salad was about a 1.5 out of 10. Overcooked noodles and bland. It tasted like it was required to be on the plate. Same with the service. At least that part was consistent.
I asked for Sriracha. They didn’t have it. I was handed chili crisp instead. That’s like asking for ketchup and getting marinara. Not terrible, but absolutely not the assignment. No chili garlic sauce, no real hot sauce options at all, which feels concerning for a place leaning into bold flavors.
Our waitress didn’t check back much, and communication was confusing. We weren’t totally sure what could or couldn’t be adjusted. The whole experience felt disorganized.
Parking was rough too. We parked a few blocks away and walked.
Overall, it was disappointing. if I go out to eat somewhere, I shouldn’t have the feeling like I can go in the kitchen and make it better -which without a doubt in my mind I know I could have. I wouldn’t be surprised if whoever ever had come up with this menu does not eat any of this food at all. We were genuinely excited to try it, especially with my fiancé being from Maui. We wanted to love it. But this one fell well short of even mediocre.
We ordered the spam musubi appetizer, miso lamb hotpot, Loco moco with fried rice, and a side of kalbi.
The musubi was spot on with a big approval from my husband. My hotpot had perfect miso broth and came with a huge bowl of veggies and generous portion of lamb.
My husband wasn’t crazy about the loco moco. He thought the fried rice was lacking some flavor and was too peppery. He was also not a big fan of the gravy. The mac salad was okay.
Then he tasted the kalbi and said it made up for what was lacking in the loco moco. He hadn’t had kalbi like that in a very long time.
The waitress was a sweetheart and checked on us often.
Overall this is a great place to check out in beautiful downtown Coeur d’Alene.
