Unfortunately, I have to disagree with the glowing 5-star reviews, those might be from loyal locals, but my experience was far from great. The ribs were dry and tough, like they’d been sitting out too long. The mac & cheese was bland and forgettable, and the potato salad? It looked and tasted more like mashed potatoes. The baked beans had a strong burnt flavor, and not the kind that adds a smoky kick….just burnt. The broccoli casserole was the only thing that was halfway decent.
Honestly, I had high hopes walking in, but was left disappointed. The owner really needs to step up the quality and consistency. With the right improvements, this place could have potential, but as it stands, I won’t be coming back.

Just passing through and saw this place close to 167, so we stopped. We were in a hurry so got a to go order, brisket sandwiches, everything was delicious! We loved the potato salad and coleslaw, brisket was great, even the tea was good! The staff is friendly, so this place gets 5 stars, we love the small mom and pop places that are still around serving up tasty food!!!

My wife and I were in El Dorado Arkansas for the southern soul fest and we stopped by Howell’s BBQ. The food was great. The Ribs were so good you didn’t need any sauce but the sauce was delicious also. Mr Howell and I had a great conversation. My wife, Mrs.Howell and some of the staff did boots on the ground. Mrs. Howell made us some of her homemade banana pudding and it was great. We can’t wait until the next visit. Thanks Mr and Mrs Howell for your hospitality.

Hands down the best barbecue brisket I’ve ever had in my life. Everything at Howell’s is absolutely delicious, and the people there are phenomenal. The quality, the flavor, and the service are all top-notch. If you haven’t been yet, you’re missing out!

Howell’s Barbecue is hands-down one of the best BBQ spots around! The flavors are incredible, and everything tastes like it came straight off a pit master’s grill. Their baked potato is loaded to perfection, and the brisket is tender, juicy, and full of that smoky goodness you want in real barbecue. The staff is friendly, the service is quick, and every bite makes you want to come back for more. If you’re anywhere nearby, do yourself a favor and stop by—Howell’s Barbecue never disappoints!

I like trying BBQ when I travel. If this is all El Dorado has for BBQ I feel bad for y’all. The driest brisket I’ve ever had and a pitiful portion size for a sandwich. The potato salad was sweet but decent. Coleslaw was slop, don’t get it. The staff is friendly and helpful and the old school feel inside is nice, but what a disappointing experience overall

Traveling through on a motorcycle vacation and hunger hit. We opted for bbq and Howells hit the spot.
Momma’s pulled pork sammy was flavorful, moist, and “yummy” according to her. My sausage and turkey 2-meat plate was also very good. Sausage is not spicy, not greasy, and very pleasant. Turkey was moist and with a little of the “spicy” (not really) bbq sauce it was great.
Potatoes and gravy were average, turnip greens probably from a can, but the cornbread was excellent.
Definitely beats fast food and the service was great! We ate it all!

Great food good portions . Had rib plate w/ turnips and bake beans and the sliced brisket plate with cole slaw abd hash brown casserole Corn bread ( which was sweet and good) and sweet tea. Service was fast and kind. Food was very good . Ribs were fall off the bone and the brisket had just enough fat. Baked beans excellent cole slaw very good as was the hash brown casserole and delicious turnip greens. So glad we stopped . Should of taken pictures before we started eating but it all looked and smelled so good is was hard not to dive in.

Excellent. I asked the receptionist at my doctor where a good bbq place is and she said Howell’s BBQ. She was right. Everyone was nice. I think most people call in their orders. Next visit I’ll try the ribs.
