We tried their thali, which was decent and felt authentic. However, non-veg items are not included and come at an additional cost. A small bowl of mutton sukka was priced at around $7 extra, which felt a bit steep for the portion size. The chicken chatti parotta, stuffed with curry, tasted very good and was flavorful. The veg biryani leaned more toward a home-style veg pulao—medium spicy and comforting, though not a traditional biryani. For appetizers, we ordered the karuveppilai melagu kozhi(chicken lollipops), which were excellent with a unique and enjoyable flavor.
The food overall tasted fresh and authentic, and the ambience and seating were quite nice for the area, though the restaurant is slightly on the pricier side.
One concern was the service near closing time. Although it was only 1:40 PM, we were rushed to place our order since the kitchen closes at 2:15 PM. When we asked for a few more minutes to review the menu, we were told it couldn’t be guaranteed. This felt unnecessary and impacted the overall experience.
Pros ✅
Authentic and fresh Chettinad flavors
Good ambience and seating
Unique and tasty chicken lollipops
Cons ❌
Pricey, especially non-veg add-ons
Rushed ordering close to kitchen closing time ⏰
The menu might be a little confusing if you’re not familiar with Chettinad cuisine, but everything we tried was worth it. Overall, a good experience
Update:
We chose House of Chettinad to cater the traditional Baby Shower (Seemantham), and I must say it was an excellent decision. The food was absolutely delicious, full of authentic flavors, and thoroughly enjoyed by all our guests.
The HOC catering team was incredibly approachable and took the time to understand the details of our event, including the guest count. They provided thoughtful suggestions and helpful customizations to the menu. Their accurate quantity estimates and tray size recommendations ensured there was no food wastage, which we truly appreciated.
Some of my personal favorites included the chicken ghee roast, kottu parotta (which reminded me of the ones we enjoyed in Chennai, India), parotta with vegetable salan, vadai, and both the veg and chicken biriyani. The traditional drumstick cashew curry was a big hit with everyone. The carrot halwa was simply amazing and served as the perfect sweet ending. The mocktail drinks also deserve a special mention.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience. I would highly recommend HOC catering for anyone planning their next big event at home!
I’ve attached the menu for reference — more variety in biryani and starter options could have been better.
We ordered Nenjelumbu Rasam (soup), Dindigul Mutton Biryani, and Karuveppilai Milagu Kozhi (appetizer). The soup portion felt small for the price. Overall, the flavors in the soup, biryani, and chicken appetizer were mild and couldn’t feel the true flavor of dish.
Despite not being crowded, the biryani took around 40 minutes to arrive.
Positives: Service and ambience
Can be improved: Flavor intensity and portion sizes for the price point
