I don’t want to leave a review like this for a place I grew up around, and went to a bunch. Jeesh it was really bad. The fries were frozen but the highlight of the meal. My double, bacon cheese burger was not real in any way, very sad looking and tasting. My girlfriend had the chicken burger which was equally as embarrassing looking, and tasting. The shake was great! We also came in and ordered it to go but they brought it out on a tray for inside dining. It’s just a shame. Sorry.

Can’t believe I going to give a negative review, as I grew up on Maple Ave and have been there many, many times over the years. Staff is almost always friendly and accommodating. Aesthetic is supposed to be old-fashioned, so it’s fine, most diners look a little rough around the edges, part of the “charm”. Prices are typical for the times, but don’t go by the online prices, or you’ll be $15 short at the register. Hate to say it, but my issue is with the food. My wife’s fries tasted like they were found in the couch cushions, hard, waxy, cold and flavorless, her steamed hot dogs looked grey, and the coleslaw was inedibly “off”. My (6) onion rings were dark brown and bitter. Burger was ok, but lettuce was wilted beyond recognition and the whole thing tasted watery and unseasoned. The shakes are good. This place has had its ups and downs over the last few years, but this is the 3rd time in a row that I’ve been thoroughly disappointed I mean, CHANGE YOUR DAMN FRYER OIL!!! Fried food is your claim to fame?? Everything from your fryer tastes bitter and fishy. For the prices you are charging, it’s infuriating that you’re allowing your locally renowned food to look and taste THIS BAD. I don’t know if the Spragues are still involved, but they would be embarrassed at what’s being served to people with their family in mind.

I don’t know if people have low standards now for food or we just went in on a bad day, but the food we got was pitiful. The “Texas Burger” looked more like a Mcdonald’s mcdouble (but one patty) in size. The fries were unsalted and the coleslaw tasted off. The rest of my family got PINCHED for the amount of food and price we paid. It was very smokey in the restaurant where we picked up the food. I hardly ever review anything, but this was so pathetic, they (The lady that gave us the food seemed nice) skimped so much on what we paid for there’s no reason for us to bother going again. This is more for people trying to get quick good food at a decent diner. Go to the Claremont Diner down Washington st. instead.

My wife and I were in town visiting. Decided to get dinner here as Hitchin Post was a family favorite when I was a child. Our experience was absolutely horrible. The food was disgusting and according to the prices on the web site I was over charged by $20.00. Dont waste your time or money.

Great food, great prices, fast friendly service! Need to invest in a good exhaust fan and A/C, was very smoky and extremely hot inside.

Food is American diner. Good sizes, good flavor. It feels like a step up in quality. Burger had great flavor. Sausage grinder was very nice.

My favorite little diner in Claremont by far. Great food, great service, best pricing around. Can’t beat the milkshakes either!

My husband had a double cheeseburger and I had a fishdog (lovely deep-fried fish in a hot dog roll). We each had a fountain drink and shared a very generous order of fries. The bill was $16, and we were satisfyingly stuffed. AND there were vintage mini jukeboxes at the booth tables with songs from the past 15-50 years that you could play 1 for a quarter and 3 for 2 quarters. It was SO fun. The same sweet young man took our orders at the kitchen window and brought our food on a tray. When we were done, we put our trash in one of the waste bins available and left the tray atop the bin. Very casual and friendly. Lots of thank-you messages on the walls from bowling leagues to high school sports teams. A civic-minded establishment.
