I was in the mood for fried fish today so I went to Hip Hop in Waldorf, MD. I ordered the 6-piece trout (fish only) and clam strips. Once I got the order something told me to check it. I did and noticed that the fish had been fried very hard. The fish was a darker color and didn’t look quite right. I was going to try to deal with it and went to my car. I reopened the box and I just couldn’t do it. I tasted a small piece to confirm what my eyes saw I paid too much for food that I can’t eat. I took it back inside and spoke to the gentleman at the front. He redid an order cooked soft for me. In their defense I didn’t ask for the fish to be soft when I ordered. I have noticed that most places cook chicken and fish hard now. You have to ask for it to be cooked normal or what is called soft. It is crazy to me but it is what it is. Sometimes I forget just as I did today. The pic on this review is the fish that is fried soft. I wish I had taken a pic of the fish fried hard. There was literally no meat. Everything was hard and crispy. Not the way fried fish should be prepared and consumed.
The clam strips were fine. Just remember to ask for your fish and chicken fried soft of you want it juicy.

My son typically orders from here and I finally decided to give it a try. Well I sat outside and placed the order then walked inside, took no more than a min and a half to walk inside. When I ordered the time said 15 min. I told the gentleman I had just ordered so my order wasn’t ready but gave him my name. The entire 4 min I’m in the store I never seen them drop a fry, chicken or anything. The gentleman told me that my order was ready. I told him that I didn’t want an order that had already been sitting there and asked if her could remake it. He literally addressed 4 other people and told me to take the bad. I said I would like it fresh and if I can’t get it fresh I’d like a refund. He said ok. But couldn’t figure out how to do the refund and tried once more to get me to take the order. I said no I want it fresh. So he had an attitude and told the other gentleman to just make it. I was really disappointed that for my first experience he was willing to give me food that wasn’t fresh. But the next day I went to the other location and had so much a better experience. I’ll continue to drive out my way there.

My husband and I are new to the area. When we moved here Hip Hop became our favorite restaurant. But, in recent months the quality of the food has changed and not for the good. Not willing to give up on them we tried several times after the first bad experience. Things haven’t gotten better. Maybe the cook has changed. One thing is for sure the quality of the food has changed. No flavor.

So normally order from the one on leonardtown rd. My daughter accidentally order from this one. When I say HORRIBLE I MEAN, HORRIBLE. I’ve never had a problem with my chicken fingers cause that’s what I normally get. But these chicken fingers must have been on crack and I’m not talking about the seasoning. Tough and I almost choked. The only thing edible was the French fries. Never plan on going to this one again. They are definitely not the same. DISGUSTED!!!!

Every time I come to Hip Hop Fish & Chicken, it feels like I’m stopping by a friend’s house, and that friend is always happy to see me. A big part of that is thanks to Vidal who works there. He always greets you with a warm smile, remembers your name, and makes you feel genuinely welcome. That kind of personal touch is rare these days and truly sets this place apart.

Outstanding service from Maroun at Hip Hop Fish and Chicken Kabob Place! He noticed we had our newborn with us and offered to set up seating outside, making our experience wonderful. The lamb chop kabobs were exceptional—juicy and flavorful. Side greens were savory with a light sweet taste. Mac and cheese, cool. Meal was filling. Service, great! Maroun’s recommendation of the cream cheese sweet potato pie was spot on; it was rich and delicious, not overly sweet. Catfish nuggets were on point as the always are, with extra seasoning as I requested. He gave us the dipping sauces and coleslaw, didn’t forget! Great energy at this place. We’ll definitely return. Thanks, Maroun, for making our visit fantastic!
