Down-to-earth Himalayan eatery providing Indian & Nepali dishes in a colorful, BYOB dining room.

I really wanted to like this place. I believe it was a viable option at one point. But their flavors simply didn’t have it. They seem to have given up on dining in option at this point but given the abundance of similar food options few miles east, it was difficult to justify going there any more. It would be nice to see them turn it around if they are willing.

First time trying this place and won’t be back. Overall, abysmally small portions for the price and mediocre quality.
Butter chicken and chicken biryani each were 16. The butter chicken was half the amount of any other place and mostly tasted like slightly spicy yogurt. The chicken Biryani was mushy, clumpy, mostly tasteless. The naan tastes like overcooked plain pizza dough. I think it might’ve been made 3 days ago then reheated in an oven.
Seems to me like the owner has given up on the place. Interior is unappealing at best. It smells of cigs and all his take away menus on display must’ve gotten wet and dried together. The place looks disheveled and unorganized.
My advice to the owner: get rid of half your menu items. The ones remaining, make sure they’re good. Clean up the place. Double the portion sizes. Try to get some economy of scale going.
Good luck!

First time eating from here. We ordered takeout. We ordered chicken tikka masala, chicken makhani, keema samosa, garlic naan and lamb biryani. Nothing stood out. The adults in our group didn’t like anything. The kids liked it, for what it’s worth. Biryani was mushy. The naan had too much garlic and has a mushy texture. The samosa was flavorless. The food was average at best.

Food was outstanding. Don’t understand the negative reviews, only had vegetarian dishes but they were all stellar. Bhindi Masala was a highlight. Highly recommend over most places near Devon and Western.

It is a small mom and pop place, however, they are very welcoming and their food was good, so please visit this place when in the area. I dined in and had a great conversation with the owners, as well as my company.

We catered for a baby shower from here, staff was extremely friendly and accommodated a large order in short notice. The food was tasty and the garlic naan was delicious! Would def cater from here again! I thought it was very reasonably priced for the quality and quantity! Food was ready at the time we asked for and packaged well, overall great experience.

I ordered food from this please for lunch at my office, and later tried it because it was the closest Nepalese or Indian option in my home neighborhood, not realizing at first that it was the same place. I had tasty food a couple times, so I kept trying. But eventually it was horrible several times in a row and obviously not worth it. I think maybe Sundays or Tuesdays are worse, not sure.
I twice received the chutneys completely *rotting* with takeout or delivery – the little plastic cups were bursting & it was very old. I had 1 or 2 good experiences dining in, but then mostly underwhelming, rude service with a person walking away instead of acknowledging things we asked for, very over dried meat. They didn’t ever ask if something was good or we were satisfied; with the dry meats I figured I’d they carried it to the table that shows what they find ok to serve, and with the underwhelming I just figure it’s my own taste no reason to complain. But it also just didn’t seem like they cared.
I do understand the good reviews because it was delicious a few times… but I can’t waste any more effort or money on this place.

The people here are so nice, and We used to love this place for their veggie samosas, and I had eaten their other food last year, but we went back recently after laying low on the restaurants, only to find that the food here is now dry and flavorless. This time, our meal just…hit differently than it used to. Did the chef change? My Tandoori chicken I got in my takeout order was flavorless and mostly dry. Also, the big chunk of onion that was nestled into the box with the chicken wasn’t grilled, cooked or anything…it looked like someone had just taken an onion straight from the produce section, chopped it in half, and popped it into the microwave for a min. No seasonings on the onion or anything. Just doesn’t make much sense to even include it with the chicken. $13 for dry chicken and what tastes like microwaved onion is a bit much, in my opinion.
I had the same experience with the chicken samosa unfortunately – not much flavor, and the flavors that were there, just didn’t hit right. We used to love this place for their veggie samosas, so perhaps we should just stick to buying those, but we don’t know if they’ve changed too. You guys can do it! Every restaurant goes through stuff like this, so hopefully you guys can improve and go back to the quality of food you had before!

Recently, we ordered delivery from Himshikar. Although their prices are lower than other places, we found that the portion sizes were smaller than we expected.
The palak paneer and madras gosht didn’t quite meet my expectations. They certainly didn’t taste like the standard recipes I’m used to, which was a bit disappointing.
On the other hand, their Nepalese dish, kukhura ko masu, had a decent flavor, although it leaned a bit on the sweet side for my taste. The kebab, however, was quite tasty.
If I were to recommend Himshikar, I would advise sticking to the Nepalese cuisine and steering clear of the Indian dishes. For $90, we were expecting better food and more of it.
