They added an 18% gratuity fee, which we understood because that usually happens with a party of six or more. The waiter said he would check with the manager.
The manager came out and said it was because it was the weekend and when the bill is more then $100 they “usually just add it.” We told her that it should be stated somewhere upfront, because it’s fine, but customers shouldn’t be expected to just know that
Then they gave my sister the wrong receipt they gave her someone else’s receipt who had already paid before us and that table didn’t get charged the gratuity fee. Keep in mind, the manager said the fee was added because it’s the weekend.
We checked the menu, and it said the tee will be added for a party of six or more, which is normal in restaurants, but there was only four of us.
Food was okay. I didn’t like how I’m supposed to build my own poyboy. The lettuce was still wet. They got one of our dishes wrong. The tartar sauce wasn’t cold. It was warm.

First time here, but this restaurant made it to my favorite list. Ordered Seafood Caldo and Grilled Tilapia with 3 shrimps and 3 scallops, loved it all! The best fish, shrimp and scallops I ever tried, the seafood soup was out of this world. Definitely will be back for more great experience. Food is excellent, freshly made, atmosphere is good, staff is friendly.
P.S for people complaining about fries, go to your lovely Mc D for your favorite food, LMAO.

We got seated quick they asked if we wanted a drink, ordered a whiskey old fashion they didn’t have bitters i am assuming because it tasted like water down whiskey ordered the ribeye but looked nothing like a ribeye! Waitress never asked if we wanted another drink or how the food was. The next time we saw her she brought us our check!

So let me begin with, It’s a wanna be seafood and steak restaurant. It’s almost like ur driving on this lonely stretch of highway and here pops up a restaurant. It almost looks as it was Mexican restaurant at one time. Dark, old, Grungy atmosphere. The bartender doesn’t know how to make drinks and has to look up how to make an old fashioned. The service is extremely poor, she never came over to see if I wanted a refill or how the food was. The food isn’t like anything in the pics. It clearly was all frozen. Hopefully I don’t get sick. Definitely not a place I will ever return to.

Fresh. Very good food and great Staff Service. We had the fried mushrooms and crab cakes. The entree was the Catfish and Shrimp. Fries and coleslaw. The dessert was vanilla cheesecake.
Great dinner and atmosphere.

When the order was called in we always, for over 10 yrs have gotten 1 extra tartar sauce and 1 extra red sauce per dinner plate without fail as we requested. Needless to say 4 times a month. On this day when picking up the order a new young Spanish girl rang up the charges took my money swiftly I then asked her. Did we get the extra tartar sauce and red sauce that we requested. She told me no! I asked why she said I have to pay for them. I told her that I’ve been coming here for over 10 years four times a month and they’ve never charged me extra for the sauces can I speak to the manager she told me no the manager was not there I asked to speak to the owner she told me the owner wasn’t there either she did say that her boss was there but he was too busy to talk to me I asked her what could you tell me how much the extra sauces would be she told me she didn’t know it wasn’t on the menu. she is right I looked at the menu online and at the restaurant it’s not on there for charging extra for the condiments explained to her again that I was a patron to the restaurant and that I would be there in the morning to talk to the owner or the manager she could have cared less. Needless to say after raising a fuss with her I can’t continue to eat there for fear my food will be tampered with I will talk to management tomorrow and update this review

Here’s the truth about Hempstead Seafood. This USED to be one of my family’s favorite spots. We’ve gone here for years.

The service, the food, the treatment from staff has all cratered. It honestly pains me to write this, because I not only used to love this place, but love supporting local businesses.

Recently, we had our food brought out to us late and it was cold. Appetizers were brought at the same time as the entrees. The reasoning? “Well, egg rolls sometimes take awhile”. The fried pickles? Well they said they didn’t have an excuse for those. One of our tablemembers had to wait nearly 10 more minutes to get his meal after everyone else.

My food came out with no sides, and the appetizers had no sauce to go with them. Things happen though, so we made a request for all of the missing things to be brought out. We had to ask 5 MORE TIMES before we finally got everything we ordered. The corn nuggets my table mate ordered? Well those came out after we already ate everything else. Did we still have to pay for them, you bet we did. Despite not eating those, they were on the bill.

The staff was rude and unprofessional. All I wanted was the appetizers taken off the bill. The response was “you got them didn’t you”. Every request I made was met with defensiveness. The egg rolls we eventually got sauce for, we did eat. They made sure to let us know we needed to pay for those, but since they closed in 30 minutes it wasn’t like they were going to do anything for us anyways. Of course, we ate them since we had to wait to get everything else for our entrees. No effort was made to treat me with respect. After our conversation with the supervisor she stormed off saying “GOD DAMN”, after we made our requests. I was never rude, and never raised my voice, but she sure did.

I’m not the person to ask for money back, I think that’s not usually right. But all I wanted was some recognition of the problems we had. But we couldn’t get a discount if we ate the food or didn’t eat the food. We were still paying for the entrees that came out late, without certain things, and no sauces. I never asked for anything to be done regarding those. Even so, my slight request for some recognition was met with anger, rude language, and no help. Also, despite being at way less than half capacity they “were busy” so we should have asked for help more often. It’s our fault the servers were not attentive.

Eat at your own risk. This is not the Hempstead Seafood of old.

The food was delicious and the service was great! The inside is a bit dark and in need of a face-lift, but that wouldn’t stop me from dining here again!

Tasteless and Dirty. Zero Stars.
Go to Sealand Seafood, Steak & Pho (“The Boat”) instead.
1925 13th St Unit B, Hempstead, TX 77445

I ordered the following to-go: One (1) Snow Crab Cluster and one (1)Fried Seafood Platter with 2 pieces (not fillets) of fish and 6 Shrimp – sub hush puppies for salad/slaw.

The cluster is dirty and dry. It looks like it was just unpacked and soaked in hard tap water. The “seasoned” butter looks like someone mistakenly dropped half of a pinch of seasonings into the butter. I did order extra seasoning, but I used it on the fish and shrimp since I threw away the dehydrated cluster.

The shrimp and fish are dang-near tasteless. The shrimp tastes like Bleached & Enriched All-purpose Flour. The fish tastes like freshly ground cornmeal and a light hint of flavor.

I asked for hush puppies instead of coleslaw/salad. They gave me coleslaw (I don’t want that – to the trash) and hush puppies. No french fries.

Prior to my friend placing the order, I called to ask about if the snow crab cluster is seasoned. The young woman who I spoke with said that “[they] can add seasoning to it”. To the contrary, when my friend was ordering, she asked if they could add seasoning. My friend was asked if she wanted “extra seasoning” because they “already season the clusters”. I’ll let you judge for yourselves.

This was their second chance with me.
I will not return as a patron.
