I was born in Hawaii and I miss it so much but this place brought me right back without the 10 hour plane ride.

Hello Hilo in Gainesville is easily one of the most unique dining experiences in North Georgia. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere completely transports you — warm lighting, island-inspired details, and a laid-back energy that feels like you’ve stepped off the plane in Hawaii. It’s more than décor; it’s a vibe.

The food is genuinely authentic and thoughtfully prepared. Every dish tastes intentional — fresh ingredients, bold island flavors, and presentation that shows real care. You can tell this isn’t a watered-down interpretation; it’s the real deal.

What truly sets Hello Hilo apart, though, is the staff. They don’t just provide service — they embody the aloha spirit. Friendly without being forced, attentive without hovering, and welcoming in a way that makes you want to stay awhile. There’s an ease and warmth to the team that elevates the entire experience.

If you’re anywhere near Gainesville, this place is worth the visit. It’s not just dinner — it’s an escape.

The food is fresh, flavorful, and prepared with a Hawaiian-style focus. What really stands out, though, is how intentionally family-friendly this place is.

There’s a fenced outdoor area with astroturf that’s perfect for young kids, which makes dining out feel manageable and relaxed. The restrooms are clean and well maintained, and the stainless steel changing table is a detail that clearly shows they thought about parents. The decor is colorful and fun without feeling overwhelming.

I wish more restaurants put this level of care into both the food and the overall experience. Highly recommend, especially for families with young kids.

The bulgogi cheesesteaks on a Haiwaiian roll was good but not super exceptional. Chicken bowl with mango was pretty bad, could not finish. Lemonade was decent, 2 flavors of the rainbow assortment were good. Not sure if I would come back bc hard to get here with the way the road is designed but atmosphere is great. They have an outdoor swing and green area that is friendly for kids/dogs.

Is the hype worth it…?!?

Made it to Hello Hilo today and let’s see if the hype checks out… Atmosphere was really cool with lots of bright fun colors, extremely unique, very family and kid friendly, and lots of activities to occupy your time while waiting.

Now to the food. We ordered the following…
– Crispy Mochiko Chicken Bowl
– Lava Spicy Steak Bulgogi Bowl
– Hurricane Fries
– Potato Mac Salad
– Peach Mochi Donut
– Apple Mochi Donut

The chicken bowl was flavorful but sweet. The steak dish was spicy and had alright flavor. The Fries were pretty bland and were cold when they were served. The Potato Mac salad was underwhelming, very little flavor and consistency was like potato salad. The lemonades were adventurous, but VERY sweet. The highlight of the meal were the donuts!

Overall, there are other Hawaiian restaurants around Atlanta that do it better… But the atmosphere and the mochi donuts saved the day!

We absolutely love Hello Hilo! The restaurant is beautiful, and it has a calm and relaxing atmosphere thanks to the Hawaiian music. I love the colors and decor!! The sliders are delicious as are the pastries. We stop every time we drive thru the Gainesville area.

Drove over an hour to try this restaurant and it did not disappoint! We ordered the Hello Hilo Bowl, with a side of pineapple (and yes, REAL pineapple, not that canned stuff) a Moco Loco Bowl upgraded the rice to Hawaiian style (because yummmm), and the teriyaki sliders with fries. Everything was amazing! My only critique would be to add extra salt on the fries (but that’s a me issue).

After lunch I went back and got some donuts and cake to go, and a hula whip and for the ride home. It was amazing!

Definitely can’t wait to come back to try more!

I said we would try again and review again. The food was exceptional. I had the Moco Loco bowl and we had the Hulu Hulu bowl and a side of Mochiko chicken, pineapple and potato salad. All was very, very good! Staff very friendly. Manager went above and beyond. We will be back!

Such a cool and unique restaurant nested in Gainesville! The decor sticks out, with colorful walls and a giant pineapple out front. The loco moco ricebowl was delicious, and I can’t wait to try the musubis. The burger patties in the loco moco ricebowl were crispy and well seasoned Another hit was the paradise lime cake– it was visually stunning and tasted so light and fresh! The bulgogi sliders were tasty too with really soft hawaiian rolls. The bulgogi noodle bowl was okay, it was kind of tangy. The pineapple malasado didn’t taste much of pineapple and was too sweet. I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu! Service was also thorough!

The atmosphere is family friendly. There is a great bit of parking and it was clean inside and in the parking lot. Very decorative, menus were plentiful and the service was fast. They had a lot of food, drink and dessert options. It’s a vibe. The presentation of the food was fine but the food quality was poor based on temperature. Everything I had was cold and I do mean everything. The outside tables were not clean and I saw one family go out to the car to get baby wipes to clean the outside table. The customer service was good, friendly staff and the food came out fast. Great place for photos with friends. Reasonably priced too. Great place for small children to play outside as well.

We stopped here on a trip to North Georgia. The food is flavorful and unique. I enjoyed the drink bar with unique colors combinations.
We sat outside to eat under the Pavillion where they have fans and an open area with a large connect four and Jenna.
