We were visiting MSP for the week and wanted to find a good bourbon bar in the twin cities. Reviews and photos looked decent, so we decided to give it a try. The bourbon selection is great and they have really reasonably priced pours, but that is all you can expect from coming here. We ordered wings, jambalaya and brisket and the wings were pretty bland. The chicken itself wasn’t seasoned and it was as if the cook just dumped the dry rub spice and deep fried it. The presentation and taste of the jambalaya was also odd. There were probably 2 cups of rice, topped with this thick sauce (tasted like a pasta sauce), two pieces of prawns and a VERY over cooked chicken thigh. Both the jambalaya and brisket came out lukewarm best, which was interesting because the corn that came with the brisket was scalding hot. When we told the server that the food was cold, she offered to replace the meals, but no one came out to apologize. Another thing I found interesting was that our side plates, empty cans and our appetizer plate was never cleared when our entrees came out. It also wasn’t because they were understaffed. I saw multiple people just hanging out at the bar waiting for people to come in. Overall I am giving this review 3 stars because if it wasn’t for the whiskey prices, it was a very disappointing experience and we will certainly not be back again.

First timer!!! Been wanting to check this place out for awhile! It was my turn planning our quarterly leader outing and I chose the patio at Handsome Hog. Great choice! It was a hot summer June day in MN but our server made us comfortable and the bartender’s special kept us cool and smiling! We ate EVERYTHING. I suggest getting there early enough to sample the Happy Hour menu which goes until 5pm then switches to the dinner menu. The brisket and chicken salad sandwiches hit the spot. We also tried the Cubano and Poutine both of which were delicious. For dinner we had a mix meals and sides but definitely get the Mac n Cheese with Hot Cheetos, Cucumber Salad and Corn Bread Muffins. If you’re a Ceasar Salad fan GET IT. The half is huge btw. I plan to come back and try more. It was a great vibe, wonderful service and beautiful patio! A successful outing. I’ll be back with non-work friends next time!

Combo #5 with 3 meats. Pulled pork was great, brisket was half good and half of it pretty chewey. Smoked chicken was more of a rotisserie style without smoked. Would not recommend the mac n cheese as it was pretty mediocre. Overall, I cannot give 5 stars for the food, it was decent but not great.

I’ve been here three times, and this place is definitely on my list of go-to’s for a great cocktail and tasty food. 4 stars for service because 2/3 times we’ve visited the service was phenomenal, the second time we visited the bartenders didn’t seem interested in making drinks or offering another round when drinks were low/empty (not only to us but to other bar guests as well) which is unfortunate as we stopped in to have a few drinks but probably had one less than we would have if the staff was more attentive that day. Our most recent visit 5/21 Dan was our server on the patio, and he was on top of his game for us! We had the cinnamon roll to start. I inquired about an espresso martini, which, to my delight, they were able to make even though it’s not on your cocktail menu. We also had the chicken and waffles and shrimp and grits. Both were absolutely phenomenal. Some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had!

Just OK. Not sure what all the fuss is about except that people really like smoked food. We ordered a combo platter, a side of mac n’cheese and a salmon salad. See photos. The mac n’cheese and brisket were disappointing as was the chicken. The mac n’cheese was too aldante and not creamy – should have been boiled longer, softer and cream added to the cheese. Most of the brisket was tough and chewy and the chicken was definately not smoked as described and without much flavor. There was no visible salmon and no taste of salmon in the salmon salad! The pulled pork was good. The dark dipping sauce for the meat was good. The waiter did his job perfunctorily and seemed disinterested. A pricy place. We should have experienced much, much better, and have elsewhere.
