Wouldn’t recommend getting poke here. We tried poke at several different spots around the island, including places where poke isn’t even the main focus – and every single one was better than this.
That includes the atmosphere, the food, and the service. When we ordered, they just handed us the containers, no bag, no napkins, nothing. Not sure how we were supposed to carry multiple containers by hand all the way to the beach.
The poke itself was bland, and they don’t provide anything to fix it, no salt, no pepper, no soy sauce. There was a lot of rice and very little fish, which feels pretty strange for the price. Again, we had poke in other places on the island and it was way better.
I’d recommend skipping this spot and trying poke somewhere else if you can.

I panicked at the counter, faced with so many choices. I chose the Kealia bowl which had a red star next to it and it was absolutely divine. It is not what I’d normally go for at a poke shop and it blew my mind. Really appreciated brown rice as an option, too, not just white rice. My mom tried my poke and had to run over to order something for herself. She got the tofu fantasy but with ahi instead of tofu and the flavors were amazing and the textures were fantastic with the crunch of sesame seeds and Mac nuts with tender ahi. Some of the best poke we’ve ever had!!!

Very good poke bowls. Super fresh and very delicious combinations.
It was very crowded, nevertheless we got our order after 5 minutes, which is really fast. The view while eating is on the parking lot of the shops around which is not the nicest, however, the flair suits totally to the north shore.

We wrapped up a solid Sunday the right way — sun, water, and that deep, earned hunger after a long paddleboard session. After a few hours on the water, there’s only one thing that really makes sense in Hawaii: poke. Fresh. Simple. No drama. Or so you hope.

Hanalei Poke was an easy choice at first. A quick search, strong reputation, beautiful location. Inside, the place looks great — clean, bright, laid-back island vibe. The menu is straightforward and easy to understand, which I actually appreciate. No unnecessary complications.

But here’s where things started to slip.

We were a group of four, clearly hungry, clearly trying to understand what works best if you’re eating on the beach. I had to actively pull information out of the staff — what to order, how portions work, what makes sense for first-timers. It wasn’t rude, just uncomfortable. I shouldn’t feel like I’m bothering someone by asking how to order food at a place that lives off tourists.

When the food was ready, we were handed four separate containers, utensils, and drinks — no bag, no offer, no question. Just “here you go.” We were heading straight to the beach. Luckily, there were four of us to carry everything. For a $109 bill, that kind of service simply doesn’t match the price point. A bag or even the courtesy of asking would’ve gone a long way.

Now, the important part — the poke itself.
It was good. Fresh fish, solid flavors, well balanced. No complaints there. The food did its job, and I enjoyed eating it by the ocean.

But overall? Good food alone isn’t always enough.

I don’t usually give four-star reviews, but this is one of those cases. Beautiful spot, tasty poke, but service that feels a bit too indifferent for the prices they charge.

Thank you — but next time, I’ll try a different place.

This spot has great reviews for a reason. The poke is fresh and the bowl is flavorful. I kept wanting to go back into the bowl as it was delicious. After reading the negative reviews, I find people are most aggrieved about the price. I find the price is on par for many of the places we have visited in Kauai and Honolulu. If you’re on the north part of the island, you should definitely come here for lunch.

Not sure about some of these recent reviews. Had an excellent experience here, poke was delicious, staff helped walk us through the menu and recommended bowls, and the atmosphere was amazing. Fresh ahi was delicious and sat right there enjoying it while watching the Hawaiian rain. We’ll be back every trip!

5 stars for the vegan tofu poke. Great mix of flavors and textures. Hearty portion. Notably good ginger, too. Would be nice to be able to pick multiple poke types for non vegans. I’m used to only having one option, so didn’t bother me.

Well seasoned poke – the portion can be a bit small for the price. I like the Hanalei special more than the kealia – it’s a bit better seasoned to bring out the flavor of the fish. Rice + salad is a good base to go with.

$26 for this? It’s delicious but 26 is outrageous. How dare them charge 26 for a freaking small portion poke bowl. I live in the Bay Area and I’ve never seen a $26 poke bowl in an area with exorbitant living expenses.

Highly not recommend. Tourist trap

– paddler: had a strong wasabi flavor which i liked. the rice was hot and cooked well. however, the fish was cut up into tiny little pieces and i personally didn’t like it that much. i feel like the quality of the fish may have been lacking as well. it was also $25 for a tiny bowl so way overpriced compared to other poke bowls i’ve had on the island. not worth in my opinion.
