PLEASE READ MY REVIEWS. Well today Hacienda Mexican Restaurant wasn’t on their “A” game. The service was great and the atmosphere here is always good. The outside seating is perfect and inside it wasn’t too cold today. They had the AC just right. I got the Hacienda oversized burrito in my wife got the chicken flautas. She said her food wasn’t up to par. She felt the chicken tasted like canned chicken. It was served on a bed of lettuce and she thought for $12 it should be a bit better. My burrito tasted great. The only complaint was it was cold. The middle was warm. The outsides were cold. Our margaritas were very good. So it wasn’t all bad. And like I said our server deserves 5 stars. He’s very good.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to Hacienda. We thought we would give it another try. Unfortunately the experience was average at best. Nothing that would cause us to return aside maybe the tasty chicken rub on the chicken fajitas. Or maybe the fresh tortia chips?
To be clear the disappointments were as follows
1) Menu:
We recalled a much more extensive menu in the past?
2) Portions:
Unfortunately unlike ANY other Mexican restaurant in St Louis there is a choice of refried beans or rice with the fajita plates. Why should you pay more for normally being served both?
3) Service:
Our waiter made a mistake and realized that the lunch special price was on M-F after he had taken our Saturday orders. The manager on duty should have covered for him and not embarrassed him by letting him simply say: ‘Well guess what? You’re all getting a reduced bill today!’
4) Quality:
Chips may have been fresh but the salsa was very thin and more like ketchup.

Positives:
Good location
Plenty of parking & seating
Friendly Servers
Chips were fresh
Food is served HOT
Prices are reasonable

I sat at the outside bar since it was a beautiful evening. I ordered the chicken fajitas. I noticed when the fajitas arrived was the seasoning didn’t look right. The fajitas had a lot of paprika seasoning. Way too much. The fajitas needed more garlic and onion seasoning. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the meat was tender. I also noticed the dish was light on the veggies (onions and bell peppers). Great service at the bar. Cool restaurant but weak execution on the chicken fajitas.

The food was not good. The quality was low and I’m pretty sure the cheese was from a can. The flavors were lacking in everything I tried and did not taste fresh. They sat our group in a back room that honestly looked like someone’s basement. It looked like it was an area for storage and there was no music so it was eerily quiet.
The only saving grace for the experience were or servers who were incredibly kind and helpful.

Pros:
Chicken Enchiladas, beans and rice were good. Chips ain’t bad.
10% Military discount

Cons:
Only two enchiladas and smaller plate then most places.
3% Credit Card Fee, only found out once I already paid….
Salsa could be chunkier
Store bought tortillas probably.

Wanted to try another new place and this time going with Mexican food.. very large place to go into. Was about to be seated really quickly and while ordering drinks, was told that we could help ourselves to the fresh nachos and their fine different salsa that they had next to them. Great way to start and didn’t need to order any apitizers seems we had the chips to munch on while we ordered and waited for our dinner. The main course came out, it was quick time to get our meal when looking around and seeing so any at Hacienda. The food was really good except for the one tamale that came with my 3 Choice combo; everything else was really good, just that the tamale was pretty dry as if it was not fresh. The good news was that everything else that was ordered turned out well. Our service was great as she ensured that we had our meals, checked on how things were going and then she was able to help get our check quickly seems we really needed to leave faster due to another place we needed to be. Camila was very helpful in making suggestions as to what we should try and seemed very knowledgable about everything that was on the menu. She ensured that our drinks were out and ready quickly and was just very happy and hepful the whole time. I would/will come back because she did such a great job in making it a very pleasant stay for dinner.

We made reservations, I’m assuming due to shortage of staff they had no one to greet us so we went to the wrong hostage stand. Once greeted we were told it may to up to 40 minutes! What was the point of the reservation? We did not need to wait that long maybe15-20. Once seated the service only got worse. This was a family event so we had small children, we were happy for the play area, however, we waited for the server to greet us, take our food and drink order. The food took a long time, didn’t come out together, someone got the wrong meal so that was another wait. Everyone had finished eating before the person with the wrong meal had the corrected food which wasn’t hot, the condiments were from the first plate not fresh the sour cream and guacamole. Not a great place to go for a family birthday dinner! Smaller groups may be better served. I would not rate the food itself highly either.
The server’s English was spotty, she didn’t seem to understand what we needed.

Service was very nice. The dining room was nice, but on a cold rainy afternoon the fireplace should be more of a focal point to make it a little more cozier. (Maybe seat folks in tables closer to the fireplace so they are warmer.) Chips & Salsa are great!

Absolutely outstanding experience! I have alpha-gal syndrome (no mammal meats). This restaurant offers Impossible! meat which allowed me to have a “beef” dish which I miss greatly. It was an excellent substitute and difficult to tell it’s not actual beef. Our server was understanding and ensured there was no cross contamination during the preparation of my meal. Our new favorite restaurant in the area!

Today I continued my adventure to try every tex-mex restaurant in St. Louis. Not really, but that is where my wanderings ended up, here at Hacienda. I have driven by the Majestic Chicken statue countless times, but tonight was the night I stopped in. Also, I was out voted in the car about what style of food we should have tonight. The parking lot was sufficient, as when we got there on a beautiful Friday evening and they looked almost full, a little search found a nice spot. As we walked in, there seemed to be plenty of tables outside and inside. We were taken to a table inside, but right next to a large open sliding door, so we could clearly see and feel the outside. Drinks and appetizers came next, which were both standard fare; the chips and salas were normal; and the queso with chorizo was good. All in all, solid so far, but nothing you don’t find at most tex-mex places. The main event of the night for me was the impossible wet burrito, and my dining companion had enchiladas verdes. The impossible burrito definitely took the cake as being well made and delicious. While I was told the enchiladas were good, The service was decent, but I had to ask a few times for a drink refill. Overall, not a bad stop for the evening. I went home full and happy.
