Established in 1999, Gruppo in Manhattan’s East Village is the original birthplace of the NYC Thin Crust Pizza family. Gruppo and it’s 6 sister restaurants have a cult-like following for the incredibly thin-crust pizza that is their hallmark. With over 20 years in the pizza business, Gruppo is still a hidden gem for many to discover but frequented by those in the know.
A neighborhood bar-like pizzeria serving thin-crust pies along with salads, pastas & desserts.

The menu has a good selection of pizzas, pastas, salads (the house salad has a great dressing and the greek salad is always fresh) etc. The atmosphere is usually cozy and casual. Perfect for small group dinners and dates. The prices are pretty reasonable.

2 times i had ordered pizza takeout from this place i can definitely tell you this is one of the best pizza spots in the 5 boroughs. Both times were different people taking my order, lady at first than man both of whom were amazing 10/10 service Their menu offer plenty of other meals as well as some vegan/ vegetarian and gluten free options so that opens you up to a much broader audience.
Love the brick all around the pub, and all i see when i am in that establishment is happy people enjoying all thats in front of them

If you want some killer pizza in a great atmosphere, this is your place! The pies are made fresh, and you can tell every ingredient is of the highest quality. Amazing wine and beer selections, and the staff is absolutely amazing. Very attentive, courteous, and really go above and beyond to make you feel right at home. 10/10

Although my experience was overall satisfactory at Gruppo, I have to stop just short of giving it 5 stars.
We sat at the bar and engaged in some light conversation with the barmaid who normally works at a different Gruppo location. She was courteous, attentive and professional. She even helped us with our orders as my buddy and I had never eaten here but he heard the pizza was great.
I ordered the white personal pizza. That pie came with arugula and added a split of bacon and spicy sausage toppings. The combo of toppings with the white pie and arugula was absolutely delicious.
Unfortunately I found that the crust itself, although very thin, had very little flavor to offer to my combo of toppings.

Finally, a pizzeria in NYC that produces world-class pizza. The thin crust at Gruppo is as tasty as a loaf of fresh-baked Italian bread. The sauce is delicious. The toppings are fresh. While Connecticut, where I live, claims to have the best pizza in the world, Gruppo can go head-to-head with any pizzeria in New Haven.

I was walking to go do my laundry and damn near broke my neck at the happy hour sign out front of this place. “Free Large Plain Pizza with the purchase of any wine bottle or beer pitcher.” SAY LESS!
My big bro had just gone on a few dates with the same girl, so we had a debriefing meeting over some pinot noir and pizza, like true savants.
I won’t go into great detail because big bro would beat me up, but he casually mentioned he and his lady friend had 6 drinks each at one restaurant. Mind you this was the 1st date. Like dawg 6 drinks would have me and my pockets ROCKED. But I guess that’s why he’s big bro!
Back to the topic.
Normally, when I eat pizza and drink I am taken out for the next 6-8 hours, as my body is fighting a war to digest all those calories made up of cheese, bread, and alcohol. I didn’t have this problem at Gruppo as the pizza is ULTRA thin. It is almost flatbread with a cracker like crust, cooked to perfection with the perfect amount of crisp.
It’s ideal for the rockstar skinny look I am going for these days.
The staff was extremely accommodating, as they checked in on us multiple times to make sure we didn’t miss the happy hour window. That’s Love Speech.
I couldn’t have imagined a cozier setting to just talk the night away, bonding with my big bro over some wine and pizza.
Bottles of wine start at around $40 while pitchers of beers start around $30. An ideal place to go with a big group.

Went here for the first time tonight. Gruppo is hands down some of the best thin crust pizza I have ever had. The classic pepperoni has large thinly sliced rounds and wasn’t oily like so many pepperoni pizzas in the city- salty spicy cheesy deliciousness. The veggie pizza had fresh bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, kalamata olives, and was loaded with cheese. So good. We also tried the Shroomtown….Wow. Three different types of mushrooms, and just loaded with earthy, savory flavor. The staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and there to take care of whatever we requested. Side of anchovies?- no problem! Oil and extra cheese on the side?- you got it! Whatever we wanted to mix up and blend together or have on the side, they couldn’t have been more polite, professional and accommodating. The place is also very clean- from the outdoor tables to the charming little bathrooms inside. No wonder this place has been serving up great pies, food and beer since 1999. Really fantastic pizza – and a great evening! Go check them out!!

Our photos don’t do justice to the food. Started with Mediterranean Salad which was perfectly dressed with pine nuts. Large pie – 1/2 Shroontown; 1/2 Sausage, basil, caramelized onions. Ended with the bread pudding- which did not disappoint.

I adore this delicious little gem in the east village. The food is just delicious. Kid friendly and family friendly. The menu is amazing. My kiddos love to eat just the plain pizza and the penne vodka. Their spinach salad is delicious as well. The service is laid back and so friendly and delivery super fast via seamless. When my 2.5 year old says can we have pizza nowwww! Gruppo is the place to go.
