The Great Big Jerk in Wilmington, DE, maintains a welcoming atmosphere with its spotless setting and friendly staff. I’ve dined here before and have generally been pleased with the offerings. The brisket sandwich from a previous visit impressed with its tender and flavorful meat. However, the BBQ sauces—the Red Stripe version and the regular sweet one—tend to be too similar in taste and are disappointingly thin.
On my most recent visit, I opted for the two-meat combo named Phoebe’s BBQ, priced at $24, which included two sides. My choices were the Jerk Chicken and 3-bone ribs. Unfortunately, the ribs did not justify their inclusion in the combo due to their scant portion. The Jerk Chicken, however, was a standout, striking the right balance of spice and tenderness without being overpowering. Though I would have preferred a more robust jerk seasoning for authenticity, the milder flavor was still enjoyable.
The sides were a mix of hits and misses. The Mac and Cheese was delightfully creamy and served hot, but the rice and peas were bland, and the rice was overly soft—a disappointment given its promising spicy aroma. The roll was standard fare, nothing exceptional but perfectly acceptable.
The ambiance resembles that of a clean, fast-food establishment, which is effective given the efficient and friendly service. While improvements could be made—particularly with the rice and peas, which could use a recipe revamp—the overall quality of the BBQ and the delicious desserts make The Great Big Jerk a place I would return to. It remains my top choice for BBQ in Wilmington, and I look forward to my next meal there.

For my first time experiencing Great Big Jerk and Daniel and Trinity made it a great experience! I got the brisket sandwich and Daniel chopped it up for me to make it better. Hushpuppies were made fresh and light and airy *chefs kiss*. Will definitely be back for the jerk chicken.

My daughter and I stopped buy this spot on our way back to N.J and we thoroughly enjoyed the food! My daughter had ribs and I had the jerk shrimp. The shrimp is very flavorful and if you are not into spicey this is the dish for you. My daughter enjoyed her ribs as well.

What a disappointment! We tried this place for first time. We order brisket, ribs and pork from the smoker menu. They gave us 3 slices of brisket instead of a half a pound, not a half a rack of ribs and not a 1/2 pound of pulled pork. Never going here again.

I was very disappointed. Wasn’t what I expected. I ordered the bbq 1/2 brisket with French fries and coleslaw., and it wasn’t worth the price.
The brisket was tender but too salty and I had to put my own bbq sauce on it. The coleslaw wasn’t coleslaw..at all! Coleslaw has CARROTS and I don’t know what was that in mine. Either tomatoes or red peppers. It was HORRIBLE! The French fries was good! I will try again, but something DIFFERENT next time and see how that goes, fingers crossed!
The picture on the left is what I purchased and is supposed to be COLESLAW! The picture on the right IS coleslaw and I had to go to the market to get it after not being satisfied with my purchase.
