They also play good music in there
Rest assured, G and R Deli is a true gem in the neighborhood!
That’s why I always turn to them when it’s time to satisfy my hunger. Whether I’m grabbing a quick takeout or dining in, I consistently enjoy every meal I choose.
I’ll admit it…I’m a foodie, and I’ve probably tried at least 50% of their menu. Not once have I been disappointed!
I believe in giving credit where it’s due, and G and R absolutely deserve recognition for the amazing service they provide. Customer service matters, and I always feel welcomed by the warm smiles of their staff.
Overall, their food selection and prices are just right. And honestly, if anyone thinks it’s too expensive, they might want to budget better and cook at home.
Back when this place first opened, the sandwiches were decently priced. Roughly $6 for an Italian combo sandwich on a roll. Now, for that same sandwich, you’re looking at $9.95 + tax. And on top of everything else, they charge a credit card surcharge! 3.5% .
I think them being across from the high school made them see nothing but green, and now they’re trying to see how high they can push the prices before kids stop showing up.
It’s a shame.
Response from owner:
I consider our deli one of the cheapest around the town. I’m not sure where you got 6$ but that has never been the case, for an Italian combo roll it was 7.99 plus tax. We first opened the year before Covid, so I’m sure you’ve seen prices change everywhere, nothing is cheap anymore. We actually do give every student from the school a discount when they show ID. On top of that, the if you don’t like the credit card surcharge, simply use cash and your total would be the exact same as the menu states. We are sorry that your time at our deli wasn’t the very best and we hope you come back so we can give you a better
experience.
Edit: I’ve seen your response.
– Your deli is 1000% NOT the cheapest in town. Don’t claim to be something you’re not. There are several, much better and less expensive establishments around. (And in Hopewell)
– I run a business. I keep my receipts for everything. I’d be happy to go back through my records and find a receipt for a sandwich I bought when you first opened. It was no more than $6.99.
– True, you do offer a student discount. However, it’s not a discount when you add 20% to the price, then take off 20%. That’s still the same exact price! And I know this to be true because I was a JJ student just last year! I’ve seen it happen with my own orders- you increase the price then apply this discount. That’s a shady business practice to say the least.
– Credit card surcharges are nothing short of illegal in New York State. I’ve already sent photos of the sign on your register to the Attorney General’s Office, who does take these complaints seriously. I can only hope you get fined for this.
