Visiting Nashville from Chicago, I’m always on the hunt for places that offer more than just great food — and Maiz de la Vida absolutely delivered.

What first drew me in was the incredible story behind the restaurant. You can truly feel the heart, heritage, and purpose woven into every detail. It’s not just a meal here — it’s an experience rooted in culture and passion.

The food was phenomenal. Every bite tasted intentional and authentic, from the fresh, house-made tortillas to the perfectly balanced flavors in each dish. You can tell they deeply respect their ingredients and traditions. It’s the kind of meal you think about long after you leave.

The service was just as impressive. The staff was warm, welcoming, and genuinely excited to share their food and story. As someone visiting from out of town, that hospitality meant everything. They made us feel right at home.

If you’re in Nashville — whether you’re local or just passing through — Maiz de la Vida is a must-visit. This is the kind of place that reminds you why food matters. Five stars, without hesitation.

Very good experience with great service. The food was very good. Portions were unequal in entrees, but we shared and so it was fine.

The mole was the best bite!

The chef’s counter was a strange setup unlike any I’ve experienced. It was more of a kitchen view rather than a chef’s counter experience. Nonetheless, neat to see.

We came on Christmas eve and every table was full. Sat at the bar but everything we shared was so good. The Fideo Seco was very good especially mixed with the fresh guacamole. The birria is what they are famous for so that’s a must. The skirt steak was great but neither of us were fans of the cheesy corn gravy thing or how the beets were paired with the steak. We were also getting quite full. The margs are typical for nachos but I think are quite small for their price point given how average they were. All in all we love their food truck in east so we’re excited to get to try this spot. Highly recommend getting a reservation through their website.

We got the invite of my friend to go to this restaurant and I loved the Carne Azada, the Chef was there working, came to the table and said hi and that to me is simply amazing. Real connections go a long way, and the vibe there was outstanding. Small space, be there on time to make sure to get a table on time for dinner. Check out my pictures as part of the review

What an incredible dining experience from start to finish! Every item on the menu was absolutely perfection and you could taste the passion and care that went into making them. What really stood out to me was the fact that not only was there passion from the chefs but our server had incredible passion and love for everything they make and it shined through in how she cared for our table. We came in on a work trip for Bob’s Red Mill and had the pleasure of getting to meet the owner and Chef and him sharing the story of how he started was so special. I am an absolute foodie and would rank this as a top 10 dining experience.

Thoughtfully prepared delicious food. Excellent service. We went for dinner and it was perfect for our girl dinner. Great margarita. Small but punchy menu. Cozy atmosphere. Friendly staff.
Don’t skip dessert! Absolutely plan to come back!

We went for their special New Years Brunch Hangover menu and got Birria and Chilaquiles. The Chilaquiles were absolutely fantastic although you get choice of one meat or 2 eggs cooked your way. We paid extra to have both and it was definitely worth the extra few bucks. Cocktails were phenomenal as well.

We had an amazing time here. The food was beyond delicious, authentic and flavorful. The kitchen has a passion for food and quality. Our bartender Moises was knowledgeable about his craft, you could tell he cared about the process and ingredients. The drinks were balanced and delightful. He explained ingredients and the backgrounds of the culture and style. This place is a gem. Highly recommend. We ate the elote, cochinita civil tacos and the salmon ceviche, pictured with the review. We finished with a dulce tamle (not too sweet, fig and cocao nibs), also pictured. All were amazing but I can’t rave enough about the ceviche. The Leche de tigre sauce was so flavorful. Chefs kiss!

I was in Nashville for a conference, and I made a reservation at the counter for myself one night. It was the best night of food during my trip, and it was fun to have a front row seat to watch the chefs work. The guacamole was amazing (pomegranate seeds on top were such a genius touch) and I also loved the fresh salsas with such complex flavors and spice. I also got horchata, which was perfection. They offer a dirty horchata that contains cold brew (WOW! I want to try that) but I went late in the evening, so they were able to accommodate for no caffeine. While waiting for my main, I was given a special bite from the kitchen (I think it was a crab flauta), and it hit the spot. My main dish left me mesmerized! I got a current special- a mushroom taco with a green mole. If I got to eat a vegetarian dish like this one at every meal, I would become vegetarian. Plant-based cooking at it’s finest! Thank you Maiz de la Vida for a memorable meal!

The atmosphere was undeniably pleasant, warm, inviting, and thoughtfully put together, making it an enjoyable space to spend time in. Service was fine, nothing over the top but steady enough to keep the evening moving along smoothly. The food itself was just okay, not particularly memorable in flavor, but the presentation truly shined. Every dish arrived looking like a work of art, beautifully plated and almost too pretty to eat. While the taste didn’t quite live up to the visual promise, the aesthetics alone deserve full marks.
