We make our bagels the traditional way – mixing the ingredients in house, rolling by hand, kettle-boiling, and baking in a rotating deck oven. We offer gourmet sandwich creations, house smoked white fish, thin sliced pastrami, and premium smoked salmon. Enjoy the finest pickles in the country, and traditionally mixed tuna fish salad. Great place for delicious bagels, very New York style. There will be a wait, so be prepared, but it’s worth it! I ordered an everything bagel scooped (where they scoop out a lot of the bread from the bagel) toasted, with cream cheese, lox, tomato, and capers. *chef’s kiss*

Recommend: as long as price is of no concern. I had the OMFG bagel (on everything bagel) with spicy chicken. Overall the bagel was big with good flavor. What I did not like was that it was quite salty and I’d say very pricey at $18 for a bagel (inclusive of tax). As good as it was (and with the added pickle wedge, I could care less for) unfortunately it’s hard to justify getting again at that price, considering other options I’ve had in the areas nearby. I would recommend trying especially if the food budget is not of concern.

Moving to Chicago from NYC, it’s been tough finding good bagels, but Gotham has become a regular spot for us. The bread is so chewy and flavorful and the scallion cream cheese is a must, a little goes a long way too, which is different from the gobs used in NYC bagels, but just as good in my opinion.

Before today my review would have been closer to 5 stars but today was a mess. Walked about 6 blocks to get a dozen bagels and a sandwich, was standing at the counter to order but was told only online ordering Friday-Sunday. I said ok but can you just take my order since I’m standing right here. Nothing but a blank stare from the girl at the counter who normally does a good job. So, after getting no common sense at the counter, I was getting madder as I was walking back home, (no way I was spending five minutes putting the order in online while I was standing a foot from the person who could take my order), so I called and asked for the manager who I figured is behind teaching everyone this no common sense policy.

I got the Bacon egg and cheddar on a Everything egg bagel with butter. It was really good. The bacon was cut thick and a perfect sunnyside up cooked egg. But what really surprised me was the Gathom pickle that came with it. Delicious!

Never disappointed when I order here. Not sure people understand this isn’t an ordinary bagel shop and if you want a $8 bagel sandwich you should go to Dunkin’ Donuts or Panera. These bagels are MASSIVE and you can absolutely tell they use quality ingredients and are homemade. They load it with cream cheese or whatever fillings you get on a sandwich so the extra price is worth it for a sandwich you can have over two meals (or 1 if you’re hungover and need a Saturday revive). Favorite bagel in Chicago!

(Disclosure- I am from the West Coast and not familiar with the NY Bagel Scene). I thought this place was pretty good if you’re looking to satisfy your bagel craving. I had the Lox Bagel and it was very filling! I think I will try their other bagel sandwiches to get a good feel of this place overall. Price was a bit higher, but understandable with inflation and cost of food.

The best bagel in Chicago! Crunchy in the outside, soft in the middle – a true NYC bagel. At about $18 for a bagel sandwich with (bagel and cream cheese is $5), this is not an every morning type deal, but rather a treat every Sunday. High quality ingredients and processes, and it shows!
