Our first Korean Barbeque was flawless. Our waiter was terrific, the milkis shot and the other drink (I can’t remember the name) were great. The ingredients for the barbecue were fresh and tasty (sides were unlimited), restaurant was clean and aesthetically pleasing. We’ll definitely return. This restaurant is needed in KZN!!!
Not a fan of the side dishes big no no no for me I don’t know what it is but something about it to me is off.
The Korean chicken is undoubtedly crunchy but I think the pepper needs to put under a broiler to get that grainy taste out I don’t find it pleasant. Even in the rice cake skewers
The place is fun ngl
Everyone should go to experience your KDRAMA fantasy .
Atmosphere was amazing. But the best part was Joshua. He was excellent and so knowledgeable – taking the time to teach us not only about each dish, but also about Korean phrases and culture. He is also not bad to look at! Will definitely be back but only when he is on shift!
Today was our very first day visiting Gogi BBQ Halal Korean Restaurant as a group of twelve people, and we were honestly so happy and excited to be there. We were already very grateful to find a Korean halal restaurant in Cape Town, which alone made this place special for us.
On top of that, we were positively surprised by the Hot Pot option and the many different alternatives available. It’s not easy to find Korean restaurants that are halal, alcohol-free, and without pork, so this meant a lot to us. The menu had a great variety, and we really enjoyed the wide selection — we honestly wished we had time to try even more dishes!
The service was absolutely wonderful. All staff members were incredibly kind and welcoming, and we would especially like to highlight three people:
• One staff member (Rochelle) kindly allowed us to pray inside the Korean supermarket, even though it was already closed. They showed us complete trust, let us in, and gave us the space to pray — something we truly appreciated and will never forget.
• Another staff member (İman) was extremely attentive and accommodating, always making sure our needs were met and helping us feel comfortable as a large group.
• The third staff member (Liam) who took our order was so patient and friendly. Despite the noise and the size of our group, she took our order perfectly and delivered everything 100% correctly.
The food was absolutely delicious — truly amazing. Everything we tried tasted great, and the quality was excellent.
We are very sure that whenever we return to Cape Town, we will come back to this restaurant. Thank you so much to the entire team for such a beautiful experience!
The BBQ pork is absolutely irresistible! I’m already tempted to order a second round. We’re all thoroughly delighted and enjoying every moment spent here.
We started off with some refreshing Cokes, which paired nicely with the bold, flavorful dishes that followed. Korean cuisine often has strong, layered flavors, so having something light and familiar to sip on in between bites worked perfectly.
The first main we tried was the Dakgalbi Soy. This dish is a stir-fried chicken marinated in a savory soy-based sauce, cooked with vegetables. It had a lovely balance of sweet and salty notes, and the chicken was tender and well-marinated. For those who prefer milder flavors without too much spice, this is a fantastic option.
Next up was the Dakgangjeong, which we ordered in both soy and spicy versions. Dakgangjeong is a type of Korean fried chicken, coated in a sticky glaze. The soy one was crispy, slightly sweet, and really comforting, while the spicy version had that addictive kick that makes you keep going back for more. The spicy glaze was bold but not overwhelming, and the crispiness of the chicken held up beautifully even with the sauce. These were definitely a highlight of the meal.
We also had the Seafood & Vegetable Pancake (Haemul Pajeon). This dish was hearty and packed with flavor – crispy on the outside, with tender seafood and vegetables folded into the batter. It’s a great sharing dish and works almost like a Korean-style savory crêpe. Alongside that, we tried the Kimbap Jeyuk, which is a Korean rice roll filled with stir-fried spicy pork. It had a nice balance of rice, vegetables, and the flavorful pork filling, making it light yet satisfying.
Overall, the variety of dishes gave us a chance to try different sides of Korean cooking – from fried chicken to stir-fries, pancakes, and rice rolls. The bill for the table came to R1,046 before tip, which felt very fair considering the portion sizes and quality. Gogi is definitely a place I’d recommend if you want to explore authentic Korean flavors in Cape Town. It’s the kind of spot that makes you want to come back and work your way through the rest of the menu.
