I don’t write reviews but this gem of South Carolina deserves it. If you like authentic german make this place a must. I personally loved the atmosphere and if I lived locally I would live and eat here. Best german potato salad ever! Amazing schnitzel!

Ive been to many german restaurants and this one is ok. Cozy atmosphere. Wait staff doesnt have a clue about beer selection so just ask to look in their fridge. This would be like going to someones grandmother’s house for dinner. Pretty much a set menu. The pork schnitzel was way overcooked and almost burnt on one side. I believe there was a new guy trying out and he had everything turned up to high heat. Yes it is a one turn seating. Yes you will be there 2 1/2 hrs. Yes the owner does have a potty mouth. But this is part of the experience/ charm…i will visit again but there are too many places and not enough time so this will be on a back burner visit down the road.

This restuarant use to be really good, not anymore!!! They got us good, real good!!! I’m giving this place a two star review only because our server Tasha was very polite, and really sweet, the only reason why we didn’t get up and leave!! First off we ordered a light beer and it turns out it was an $8 beer I wish the server would’ve told us! We order the same yet two different ones were brought to the table so how does she decide who gets the bottle and who gets the can beer??No beer menu so I guess they pick and choose what they need to get rid of in their stock, well enough for them I guess. Now, We sat over an hour waiting on salads
We asked the server if there was a problem since the place was empty and we sensed this made her uncomfortable so we just sat and sat and waited some more, finally our entrees came out not bad but nothing to brag about. Dessert was a coffee pound cake the kind you buy at walmart. All in all my dinner alone was $32 and change i could’ve gone to Cracker barrel and gotten a better dinner for half what I spent here!! country fried steak with hashbrown was really all it was. Never again!! Good luck Tasha

Authentic German cook. List of different meat schnitzels. Pork was popular . German potato salad or creamed potatoes with green onion and gravy . Picked cabbage with every meal. Wine limited but was fine.

What a great experience! Wendy is an outstanding Chef, and a wonderful person. Don’t get in any hurry, and enjoy the atmosphere. Absolutely, the best German dinner I have ever had. I had Wiener Schnitzel and my wife had the Schnitzel. Both were excellent. Great flavor, and not too heavy. It is worth the drive.

Great food, better service, all wrapped up in a cozy restaurant in Prosperity which was a treat in itself. Have meant to come here for the last 5 years since I found out about it, will definitely not be waiting that long to come back.

We had an amazing experience! We’d had it in mind for a long time, and had the perfect opportunity to come for a friend’s birthday. The food was excellent and Ms. Wendy was a fabulous Hostess! Be prepared…it’s not a fast meal and food is prepared to order, so plan to come and enjoy a relaxing evening with your dinner companions. We will definitely be back!

The best and authentic German food ever! Small, quaint atmosphere. This isn’t the place for a quick meal. Everything is made to order. It can take several hours to finish the 3 course meal. Ms. Wendy, the owner, is a joy to be around and sure knows how to prepare excellent meals. Reservations are usually required because the restaurant can accommodate about 40 people.

Come here for the great food and most importantly the atmosphere. This is entertainment and dinner at the same time. It is like a traditional German inn where in you could be sitting with a random other party.
Don’t fret though, I’ve always had a good experienced and have met new interesting people. The owner, Wendy, is eccentric and amazing. She always makes your visit entertaining.

Best German restaurant I’ve ever been to. It really feels like you’ve stepped into a different country! And the entertainment is always great….aka Miss Wendy. Sure puts her heart and soul into her food… And just FYI, the owner IS the chef. She’s German, she’s lovely and the food and atmosphere is nothing like anywhere else. 🙂 Love Gasthaus Zur Elli!
