This place was a tasty treat. If you like the smoked taste of the BBQ pit, then you will live this burger. I had the smokehouse cheddar (add jalapeño!). It is a smash burger so you will need atleast two brisket patties, need that thick burger, get three. But the taste is on point. It is the top contender for number one burger in panama city(my opinion and that ain’t worth much!) You wont be disappointed with any of the food choices here. My first time here I had the ribeye bits and mashed taters. Very good. Highly recommend for multiple visits.

The food and service was amazing. We went at lunch time on a Wednesday and the place was packed and still exceeded all expectations. I ordered the lunch stack which is grouper, shrimp, and a crab cake with cheese grits. This was some of the best food I’ve had, the crab cakes are unbelievably good. Everything was top notch. This place is a local gem! I have nothing bad to say about this place. The food…. amazing. The best crab cake/fried shrimp/hush puppies I have ever had in my life. The cheese grits were creamy and the red beans and rice obviously freshly made. But let me talk more about this crab cake……it was rich, craby, fulllll of flavors, finely chopped onion and red peppers just added to the experience. The local feel was so friendly and warm. It felt like we were at an Uncle’s house. Our waitress was so sweet and personalable. We will definitely be back.

Party of 6. Had tuna dip with fried wonton as an appetizer which was very good. All of our meals were cooked perfectly and very tasty. Very nice portions, prices were good! Service was excellent. Caramel Cheesecake was so good, we got extras to go. We will definitely be back when in town. Highly recommend.

I got the shrimp po boy it was pretty good enough shrimp in the sandwich I didn’t even finish the sandwich I just finished the shrimp. I also got the cheese grits which were good as well. We wanted raw oysters but they were not delivered by 11 on a Friday but we did get char grilled which I don’t think u have actually seen before it was different but I don’t think I would do it again I’m just used to raw oysters

I must say, despite our family arriving close to closing time, which we genuinely did not realize was approaching as we thought the establishment was open later, the staff remained exceptionally friendly. They were able to accommodate our orders and provided us with freshly prepared food, even though some menu items were no longer available for the day. I certainly cannot fault them for that, given our late arrival. The food was delicious and entirely worth the wait. As I mentioned, even though we were there during their final hour of operation, the staff maintained a remarkably friendly demeanor and did not make us feel rushed or as though we were an inconvenience for arriving at the last minute.

When staying at St Andrews, we always make the drive out to Garys. Best fried oysters you’ll ever eat. And I’ve tried them at many places. They’re big & meaty but their batter is light & delicious. Not overwhelming like many fried oysters are. I even ordered a basket to go to eat later. Had a crab cake that was good as well. And the mac & cheese was some of the best around too. Friendly staff.

I really wanted to like Gary’s Oyster Shack, but unfortunately, the experience fell short. I ordered the gumbo, red beans and rice, oysters, whole fried flounder, and crab cakes.
The crab cakes were the highlight—really well done and full of flavor. The oysters were also good, as expected. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended.
The red beans and rice were disappointing—tasted like they came straight from a can with no seasoning or care. The gumbo was confusing and far from traditional (I’m from Louisiana, so I know what gumbo should be). It was way too thick, more like a gravy or paste than a soup, and the dark rice didn’t help.
The flounder came out completely burnt and inedible. I had to send it back, and they kindly replaced it with fried shrimp, which was much better, though overpriced for the portion.
Staff was friendly and mentioned there’s a new cook—maybe that explains some of the inconsistency. Overall, we left unimpressed. Hopefully, things improve over time, but this visit just didn’t hit the mark.

we love Gary’s!! the food is always excellent and fresh! we have been several times and always take our family when they are in town, they have the best seafood & best prices! their crab cakes are phenomenal and so are the shrimp and hushpuppies!
