We had to return here on our most recent stop back to Galena. We had been here a few months earlier and loved our drinks and the overall atmosphere. It’s decorated like a Chicago Speakeasy and some of the staff are decorated accordingly. There’s both a first floor and 3rd floor bar with the 3rd only offering mixed drinks. I asked for a drink I had enjoyed my first time around that saddle was no longer on the menu. They did however accommodate my request and started cooking some bacon for my barbecue bourbon candy bacon old fashion quickly. My drink was soooo good I had to have a few more before we left. My wife had a watermelon and vodka spritz which she also enjoyed. Love this place and always will stop in when in town.

The Lion’s Den in Galena is a fun establishment. Reminiscent of the roaring 20’s on the first floor, with a stage for live music on the second. This is a great place for a nice meal and night out.

Ate at the downstairs bar, the food was delicious, the service was spectacular. Steak was a perfect medium rare, salad dressing made in house. Good selection of whiskeys, decor is pretty cool. Read a negative review below and must admit i am a bit sceptical of it being anything other than a cheap person wanting freebies, if you look @ my pics that rocks glass is clearly a full pour

The atmosphere is nice and the music is at just the right volume for conversation! My husband’s tenderloin meal was delicious. I was very disappointed in my patty melt meal. It came out undercooked. I sent it back and they sent back my same sandwich with just the ends cooked…bread and all…I had cut it in half. It was still very pink all the way through the rest of the burger. My side was the BBQ beans. They came out cold. I didn’t say anything after the mess with the burger. I even told our story to someone who appeared to be the owner but nothing changed. I left the half of the sandwich my husband didn’t eat and I still had to pay for all of it.

Strange place. Poor selection of spirits. Cheap, tacky decor. No sign of “speak east vibe” bartender told us it was previously a jewelry store. went in for a drink around 4:00. Ok service. Went back after 7:00 to check out live music. Bar was brightly lit and un inviting. Solo artist nondescript. No food in sight.

This is a new and very unique venue for Galena. The outdoor host/hostess station is the first indication of how welcoming the dining and entertainment atmosphere inside feels. The decor, staff’s appearance, and music of the main floor dining room are on point for a speakeasy theme. The menu selection has a good variety; and the bar, with its impressive antique cash register, is well stocked… ready to pour. The owners, Christina & Izzy, are fun and friendly people, mingling with patrons to ensure a quality experience. Our server, Laurie, is also friendly, as well as efficient, and attentive. My husband really enjoyed the cod, served with fries… and slaw with a slight kick. My ‘Pouncing Lion’s Den Beef’ was tender and full of flavor, with just a bit of zing in the stir-fried veggies. Overall, we are happy with our visit to such a new business in town. With great live music and special dishes, I expect to make this a favorite dinner/drinks stop!

The food was really good! And the menu had so many great options! Though, the atmosphere is very cool and rustic, I was hesitant at first, seeing as how I didn’t know if the place was only a bar or a place to eat for everyone, I was a little worried at first seeing as how I’m not 21 (I will be next month) but I didn’t know if I was allowed. But I’m glad I popped in!

I’ve read some poor reviews on this place, but my wife and I were just there and it was a nice experience. They were playing good music downstairs. We did not eat there but stopped in for drinks during g the day and then after dinner later. The owners were both there and friendly. Cocktail and food menus were on display. Will stop there again on our next visit to Galena.

Best first impression I’ve EVER had walking into a bar/restaurant. I wouldn’t consider myself a fine dining customer but that doesn’t mean the upstairs speakeasy wasn’t EXACTLY my speed. Great food, entertainment was amazing, drinks flowed like water. Let’s not forget staff was fun, entertaining and took care of not only me but everyone else there too. Best part was how busy it got later that night to let loose. Would give 6 starts in possible

So close… I get it—a “true brisket”… doesn’t make it what the customer wants today, and that’s what’s important in a successfully run restaurant. I ordered the Rueben. I had read the reviews but needed to try it myself. If you’re looking for a lean, tender corned beef sandwich, you do not want to order this. Yes, they use the whole brisket. They shouldn’t. It should be trimmed and the center slab of fat and grizzle removed. It would make a much better sandwich. On the plus side, our server, Brittany, was great. Couldn’t ask for more in the way of service, plus she was just an enjoyable person. Vibe was fun. We ate upstairs, and in spite of the sandwich disappointment, we’ll come back and try the downstairs side of things. Like I said, so close…
