Update: That is not Texas Toast and understood the order always been 2 links but to be honest the links are not what I remember when I go to diners being that tiny. All and all the owner can disagree with what I believe he was selling just look at Texas Toast size and the poor presentation and the white bread they used to pass off as Texas Toast.
The fried fish and chips that were served were objectively unsafe and unfit for consumption. Both pieces of fish were approximately 3 inches long and 1 inch wide and were excessively saturated with oil. The surface of the fish was visibly shiny and wet. When one piece was turned over, there was a pool of oil collected underneath. Upon light pressure with a finger, the fish collapsed and released a significant amount of oil. This level of oil saturation rendered the food inedible and raised immediate concerns regarding proper cooking procedures and oil management.
The waiter acknowledged the condition of the food and appeared uncomfortable presenting it. This review is not a complaint against the waiter, who acted professionally. However, when the issue was communicated to the kitchen, the explanation provided was that the fish was “cooked in oil,” which fails to address the excessive saturation and ignores standard food preparation and quality control practices.
The brick oven pizza was then served. The mozzarella cheese had a distinct sour, sharp odor consistent with spoiled dairy. Upon taking a bite, the taste confirmed spoilage, and I immediately expelled the food. Consumption of spoiled dairy presents a clear health risk.
The waiter stated he was unable to smell the cheese due to sinus issues. The pizza was returned to the kitchen, where another staff member smelled the mozzarella and immediately confirmed it was spoiled, without needing close proximity. This indicates that the issue was easily detectable and should have been identified prior to service.
At this point, I was reassured by the waiter that the kitchen would correct the issue and that my next order would be prepared by a different cook, not the one who had prepared the prior dishes. Based on that reassurance, I placed a third order a cheeseburger.
The cheeseburger was prepared correctly and met expectations. This further demonstrates that the issues experienced were not unavoidable, but rather appear to be tied to specific kitchen practices or personnel.
This situation constitutes a serious food safety concern. I have a weakened immune system, and ingestion of spoiled dairy products could have resulted in severe illness or hospitalization. The failure to verify the condition of perishable ingredients before serving them to customers represents a lapse in basic food safety protocols.
I have dined at this location multiple times over the years without prior incident. The issue on this occasion was not service related but appears to stem from kitchen practices and quality control failures, particularly involving the preparation of fried foods and the use of spoiled dairy products.
Management should take this matter seriously and conduct a thorough review of kitchen procedures, ingredient handling, and staff accountability. Serving food in this condition exposes patrons to unnecessary health risks and exposes the establishment to potential liability.
I very rarely ever leave a review but I have to for 4 seasons its just to great of a place.
