The new space here where Firewood was has been updated to be more of an upscale experience with a large bar across the back wall and small tables along the front window where there used to be a high bar looking out. The interior is bright and cheery, including the back dining space which has skylights to brighten the area. Service was excellent and genuinely warm.
We started with a house made beef empanada, very nice as a shared starter.
The Greek Andina salad was excellent! With warm quinoa, drizzled with chimichurri and lemon-tahini dressing, ripe tomatoes, pickled red onion, spicy fresh cucumbers, Kalamata olives, and tangy feta.
For our main dish we shared the Barcelona pizza with prosciutto, pear, applewood-smoked ham. This also was very good.
All in all a great dinner out, slightly off the main hustle of Castro Street. Note that they (currently) only serve beer/wine. But, their cocktail recipes will certainly impress you…

We had beef empanada, provoleta, milanesa a la napolitana, and a Buenos Aires spritz. Every dish was delicious, full of authentic flavor. The atmosphere was amazing, warm, lively, and welcoming. A wonderful spot for a true taste of Argentina in San Francisco.

Flora King was outstanding! The steak was incredible (and the chef even came out personally to check on us), the drinks were delicious, and the staff were friendly and attentive. The space was spotless and welcoming, definitely a place I’d return to.

Gorgeous atmosphere and unforgettable flavors. The service was warm and attentive. Every dish impressed. Handmade empanadas, a richly earthy pizza unlike anything I’ve tasted, and a beautifully layered cheese dish that’s perfect for sharing. Whatever you do, save room for dessert the organic ice cream is phenomenal.

I’ve lived in the neighborhood for years, and Flora King is the gem we have been waiting for. Coming from a cattle ranch background, I eat steak often and I know my cuts. Too many places these days try to pass off ‘Upper 2/3 Select’ as Prime, but not here.
I had the New York Strip tonight, and it was a true Prime cut—cooked to a flawless medium-rare. On my last visit, the Ribeye was equally spectacular.
The attention to detail here is incredible. The steak came with these unique house chips—somewhere between a kettle chip and a french fry—that were absolutely addictive. They also brought out 4-5 different sauces (spicy, smoky, aioli) that complemented the meat perfectly.
I’ve dined at International Smoke (the Mina/Curry spot), and honestly? Flora King beats them on service and value. While the service at the big downtown spots is ‘correct,’ the service here is warm, intuitive, and friendly—like going to a best friend’s house for dinner.
This is an incredible Argentinian steakhouse with fair prices and top-tier meat. If you live in the Castro, we need to support this gym (gem!) of a restaurant.

Flora King, located on 18th Street in the Castro, is definitely going to be one of my new go-to spots. This past week I went with friends for a boys’ night out, and from the moment we walked in, the host and waitress made us feel at home. They warmly greeted us, walked us through the menu and specials, and even gave some great recommendations.

I went with the Torando Tournedos (pork tenderloin) and an arugula salad, while my friends ordered the New York strip steaks. Every dish was cooked to perfection—the meats were spot-on and the veggie sides were excellent. The wine and cocktails were also right on point. If we hadn’t been so full, dessert would have been the perfect finish!

All in all, Flora King hits that sweet spot of refined meets casual. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the Castro—it’s definitely worth adding to your dining rotation.

An excellent place to visit for cuisine with an Argentine flare. Let your tastebuds savor the flavors. I’m addicted to their caprese salad. Each visit has been a joyful experience.

A warm, lovely addition to the neighborhood! I’ve missed the easiness that was Firewood and thought Vico Cavone never quite filled its shoes, but I’m very excited about having Flora King come and deliver a solid, casual-but-nice dining experience. The space has been refreshed with a bright, clean aesthetic, and the service couldn’t be warmer and friendlier. The Argentinian menu with a California twist has a variety of appetizing options, and we opted for some classics that really delivered, with wine and cocktails to match. No hesitation on going back, and excited to have a new solid choice in the Castro!

I broke my oldest rule today. Don’t try a new restaurant if you haven’t eaten all day long. Why is this one of my rules? Well I tend to over order and overstuff myself. But it happened, and it happened on a chilly SF evening which made me crave for some solid food even more.
The owner and chef Angela did a great job giving the old firewood new life and new decor. It’s more inviting in person compared to the photos posted.
I ordered their Provoloneta, the fries and the pork tenderloin.
The melted provolone is lovely but it’s also a meal on its own, best used for sharing as I was full already after that. The fries were flavourful but a bit messy to eat. I like my fries simple French finger cut . On the plus side, these fries will soak up the drinks you had, before you came for dinner. The pork tenderloin, wrapped in bacon . The pork was tender but a bit on the dry side for my taste and the sauce was way too sweet.
My trick for pork tenderloin
Marinate in a combo of mustard soy sauce garlic onion pepper olive oil some lime juice a pinch of salt then slow cook at low temp with a closed lid to keep the juices inside till pink. Then flash pan fry for the crisp outside. Yes it’s reversed to what everyone tells you but it does the trick .

I like this place and certainly will introduce my friends to it.

Very cool restaurant and vibe. I love Argentinian steakhouses, and Flora King delivered. The steaks were great as expected, but the pizza was also a surprise hit! They have a legit pizza oven.

Staff was very friendly, and the chef (maybe the owner?) came out to chat a bit too! I appreciated the personalized service.

Possibly the best restaurant in the Castro. Definitely going back again.
