We went for dinner last night at Flames on Forty and honestly, it was a great experience from start to finish.
For starters, we had the salt and pepper squid and the pork belly — both were absolutely spot on. Full of flavour and cooked perfectly. For mains, we ordered the burger (temperature as per the chef’s recommendation) and the chicken stir-fry salad. The food was wow. The portion sizes were very generous and definitely good value for money.
Drinks were a pilsner beer and a mango cider with diet Sprite, which paired really well with the meal.
The service deserves a special mention — the staff were on point. We were looked after by two waitresses (unfortunately I’ve forgotten their names), but they were friendly, attentive, and made us feel well taken care of throughout the night.
Overall, amazing food, great service, and a really enjoyable dining experience. We’ll definitely be back.

Food was nice, service could of been a bit more friendly. When they removed the food menu they also took the drink menus and didn’t ask us even once if we wanted more drinks, even with empty glasses on the table. They also seem to be in a hurry for us to leave even though it was still an hour out from their officially closing time as per their website.

We stopped in for a quick drink while staying at the accomodation and were surprised by how expensive everything was. A single can of Coke was over $7, which seems excessive. There’s also a $1 surcharge for takeaway coffee and a $10 room service charge, even if you collect it yourself, which feels quite unusual.
The setting is pleasant and the staff were fine, but overall it just doesn’t feel like good value for money. A few pricing adjustments could make a big difference to the experience.

A wonderful dining experience while staying at The Hotel Nelson. We dined here for breakfast, dinner, and dessert, and not a single dish on the menu disappointed us. Some of the dishes made us gasp in delight and I ate till stuffed. I in particular enjoyed the onion rings, and the belgium breakfast waffles. The service was top notch, the woman I assume to be the restaurant manager was friendly, attentive, and a delight to talk to, and the rest of the staff were also attentive and polite. An excellent place for both breakfast and dinner!

Highly disappointed, came here for my birthday thinking it’d be a wonderful experience after reading the reviews but was left underwhelmed . Got the fish and chips and the fish was a tiny slice and overcooked to the point of dryness the chips were OK but just meh
My partner had steak which he wanted medium rare came out overcooked so it got it taken back only to come back with the same chips and sauce reheated and the steak cooked correctly but like my chips just meh
When we complained the lady was trying to say everything was cooked fresh and making us feel in wrong for complaining.
Also flies EVERYWHERE.

Service? What service. We were told on arrival that we had to sit and wait 10 minutes to be served as it wasn’t 5pm. Fine. However we weren’t given menus or water or asked if we wanted a drink. I then had to ask for menus when it was 5pm to then be asked 30 seconds later if we were ready to order!
We waited over 40 mins for our mains to come out and not once were we asked if we wanted more drinks.
Also they spent 15 mins moving tables around the restaurant for no real reason.
Customer service was appalling
Food was average. Dessert I wish I hadn’t had it was split and tasteless
Will not return.

Seated quickly and given menus but then had to wait to place our order. Had to be reminded about the drink order. Having said that, our seasonal salad with flame grilled beef was delicious, well balanced flavours, fresh ingredients and a good amount of meat. Would come here again.

This was my first experience with this restaurant. I chose this establishment as the venue for a reunion with my cousins, then breakfast the next morning. The choice was made due to the fact we were staying at the Hotel Nelson. This has been by far the best choice without hesitation or doubt in our minds. From the confirmation of booking alongside the greeting apon our entrance to the end of our farewells, this has purely been an extremely professional and memorable experience. The food was of Masterchef quality, presented beautifully and the customer service from Marcia was above and beyond our expectations and was not only attentive in every way imaginable but professionally done with an amazing attitude and smile, thank you for making our experience so enjoyable. We will be returning in the not so distant future.
