Reviews
I googled and found this spot. The reviews were pretty good. We walked in and were greeted by the owner. We knew we were in the right spot once we heard him talking. His accent was thick, locs were nice, and he reccomended Oxtails..lol. I ordered the Oxtails plate, and my wife ordered the combination plate (Oxtails and curry chicken). She also got a beef patty (which they make in-house). She told the owner we were going to review in.. which meant I was going to review it. Ya’ll know she doesn’t write any reviews for you all EVER! The definitely give you a healthy serving of food for the price you pay. You won’t leave feeling like you got duped in cost.
Opened our food, and the presentation was spectacular. The Oxtails gravy was nice and dark and the pieces given was nice and big, rice and peas were beautiful and soft, festivals were delicious looking, and the plantains did not look too hard or too soft.. just right. Oh, let me not forget about the Jerk Rasta Pasta. I’m not used to it being green. So that threw me off a bit, and it honestly looked a little dry to me.
Time to taste. Everything was good. The flavor of the oxtails was delicious and a little spicy (Not overwhelming, but he should inform ppl in case they can’t have spicy), the rice and peas was well cooked, festival were delicious and the plantains were perfect.
However, the rasta pasta needed more flavor, and it was absolutely dry. I probably would ask him to add some gravy to it next time if I order it.
My wife liked her food. I don’t think she was a hugh fan of the curry chicken, though. I think it was a little on the dry side, so she most likely won’t order it again, knowing her.
I definitely recommend this place, though. We will return and try something different next time. I want to try the jerk ribs.
The customer service was top tier, patient, welcoming, and they even took the time to explain the menu to us. One side was misheard on my order, but they quickly fixed it by giving me both, which I really appreciated.
Now the food… chef’s kiss! The oxtails were tender, the jerk chicken had the perfect kick of spice and smoky flavor, and the festivals were just right, crispy outside, soft and fluffy inside, with that little hint of cinnamon that makes you feel like you’re back home. Portions are generous too; I shared a plate with my husband, and we still had leftovers.
The vibe inside is cozy and clean, with an atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile. Hands down, this is the best Jamaican spot in the Bay. The Rasta in the kitchen definitely knows what he’s doing! DEFINITELY WORTH A TRY!
…Extra Plantain is 3 small burnt pieces….If your a woman calling in they really skimp on your order. Charging almost $30.00 for $8.00 worth of oxtails……I feel so disappointed….I have several people I know personally that agree….Not sure when this place started…In my opinion they’ve become California citified……No wayyyyyy Jamaican Rooted……Not in 2026….The love is gone……
While the oxtail was well prepared, I couldn’t help but compare it to the jerk oxtail at another Caribbean spot, “A Back A Yard,” in Menlo Park and San Jose. That said, this restaurant stands out in its own right, especially with the authenticity of its chef, whose thick Jamaican accent added a genuine touch to the experience.
The service was equally impressive. The cashier was not only professional but also warm and inviting, with a calming demeanor that set the tone for the meal. His recommendations were spot on, enhancing our visit even further.
The space, though small, is cozy and welcoming, a perfect spot for a casual meal with family or friends. While the prices lean on the higher side, the quality of the food and service makes it worth the splurge.
This is a must try for anyone craving true Caribbean flavors. Highly recommended!
I began with a chicken patty, which was one of the most flavorful I’ve had in a long time. The size of the patty was generous, making me feel like I got my money’s worth. The exterior was flaky and buttery, making it the perfect appetizer, especially when paired with a pineapple soda.
The highlight of my meal was the oxtail and jerk chicken combo. The chicken, which seemed to have been slow-cooked, was juicy and tender. Be prepared to get your hands dirty, as the sauce is incredibly tasty. The oxtail was also tender and made for great finger food. Although mine was a bit fatty, there was still plenty of meat to enjoy. The plantains were cooked Cajun-style and slightly charred, just the way I prefer.
The red beans and rice were decent but a bit dry for my taste, as were the raw cabbage topping and the bread.
In conclusion, if you’re craving Jamaican cuisine, this is a place worth trying. They also offer catering services, which is good to know. I plan on returning here on a monthly basis.
