Don’t ask how, but this awesome family-owned and operated pub—a Marin staple that has its roots in Northern New Jersey—somehow managed to find its way across the continent and ended up right here in Novato, CA, where delicious tacos and potent 100% Agave tequila usually rule! The secret sauce is the Finnegan family, who brought a piece of the East Coast with them. The Novato location, which opened in 1985, is the oldest continually run pub in Marin, and the family connection runs even deeper. The original Finnegan’s, founded in 1978 in Hoboken, New Jersey, was opened by the grandfather of the current owners. Now that’s what you call lineage! Judging from all the happy faces in the place, no one is complaining about this Jersey transplant! Years and years ago, when I lived in New Jersey, I visited the Hoboken location often, and I must say it was one of our favorite hangout spots.

Finnegan’s is the kind of place where happy hour wings and a crisp Cobb Salad perfectly pair with a couple of top-notch IPAs. My significant other went for the classic Fish n’ Chips—and I can attest that those chips are worth fighting over! We were happy as a couple of clams, even if I was the designated driver. If there had been a game on, I tell you, I would not have stopped at just two IPAs! It’s a pub built for staying awhile, steeped in local history, and still serving up that classic Finnegan’s hospitality from the minute they opened over 35 years ago on Grant Avenue.

The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Our server, Vanessa, was very nice and friendly. We are planning to return for brunch soon.

I arrived at 5:45 and found that their outside seating was already full. The lovely hostess led me to a solo table in the back of the restaurant.
After a wait of less than 10 minutes, my waitress arrived.
I promptly placed my order.
The restaurant was starting to fill up and get busy, so I wanted to get my order in.
I ordered a side salad and a bacon cheeseburger with fries.
After a wait of about 20 minutes, my salad arrived.
The burger and fries was delivered while I was still enjoying rhe salad.
My only complaint is that they should have waited on the burger until I was finished with the salad.
The burger and fries sat at my table and cooled down while I finished my salad.
Overall, I enjoyed my meal.
It just could have been better.
I kind of felt like an after thought by the employees.
It was a real effort to get the attention of the staff to request the check.

A group from work was meeting at Finnegann’s and the table was limited. Seven of us walked outside and the professional friendly hostess said “Absolutel, how many in your party” when we aske for an outside table.
The hostess was pleasant and patient with our only-drinks order.
One person was not pleased with the drink order and she kindly replaced it for a ne drink.
Our group moved inside and the service at the bar was wonderful!
Friendly bartenders and prompt to notice our presence.

This is my favorite restaurant in Novato. They have great food, great service and even better drinks. I’ve only been disappointed with one dish, and that would be the impossible burger. It was horrible. The split pea soup, the mac & cheese, and arugula salad is all amazing.
For dessert, they have bread pudding, although I believe it’s microwaved.

I came into the restaurant before the customers behind me however after looking me Right in the Eye the Waitress greeted and seated the customers behind me first…. What Happened To First Come First Served???
I would Hate it was the color of My Skin however after a second visit since the food is Incredible, I Honestly Without a Doubt Know And
Believe Being Black is why I was Treated Unfriendly. I left a Decent Tip only because the Waiter that Served Me was Professional.
Sadly I won’t be returning

Ok so me and my wife started a new thing where we travel and taste local foods. This place was great! The service was very friendly and the atmosphere was a nice vibe. The food on the other hand was 4 out of 5 for me and the only reason I said this is because the appetizer were really great but the main dishes needed a little something more. We had the Caesar salad, waffle fries and the poke. All of this was really fresh and delicious. We wnt for the fish and chips and the pot roast. The fish and chips were really good but the pot roast was a to tomatoey for me. All and all minus the pot roast I would give this place a 4.8.

Dinner mains (bbq ribs, beef stroganoff) were very good. Desserts (chemical tasting pumpkin cheesecake, dry bread pudding) were disappointing- except for sticky toffee pudding. By far the winner of the meal. Good casual atmosphere on the patio, great service.

I was here on St. Paddies Day 2025.
Awesome atmosphere, great food, service off the charts for being packed full.
It definitely was well planned,
The bagpipes outside was Steller.
