My bf liked his Cuban, so maybe order that.
My only reason for the 4 star, not 5, was that they said I’d have to pay for water (didn’t want soda). Apparently Idaho law states that you have to provide water, even if you charge for the cup (but their fountain for soda didn’t even have the option).
I don’t fault them for that but I hope they get it fixed ASAP.
It’s a fairly small deli with tables inside and more outside for Al Fresco dining. Not rerally enough room for decorations, although they do let people sign the walls. The menu is on chalkboards and signs over the counter, where you order. They deliver to your table.
About 4 people in line ahead of us, but that wait was short. It arrived at our table outside between five and ten minutes later.
The sqeeze and I split a Reuben samminch and got two small orders of tater salad. The sandwich had plenty of tender meat in it, a good amount kraut and dressing. It was served on rye bread with swiss cheese. Very nice sandwich, wonderful flavor and plenty for two people.
The tater salad was different as it had some meat in it, but very good. I am not sure what the meat was, but it sure added a different texture and flavor to the salad.
Service was very good with friendly servers. We are glad we finally stopped in.
So today I remembered that delicious sandwich and saw that there was a fat guy’s fresh deli near my work. I was curious to see how they compare to each other so I ordered the exact same thing phat pig sandwich, no bread (lettuce wrap) with no spicy fire sugar sauce. I was in a huge hurry so when I received my sandwich, walked out to the car started eating I realized they had put the fire sauce on and it was packed with sugar so basically busted my carb count for the entire day and I’ll have to start over getting back into ketosis. I was very sad because I was hoping this would be a great alternative to just skipping lunch because nobody has good very low carb options. By the way that spicy Fire Sauce is delicious but again packed with sugar that I’m not supposed to have.
So how did Caldwell and Meridian fat guys compare? The Meridian sandwich had very little lettuce so it was wrapped terribly and very messy/ complicated to eat and it was a bit smaller however at the end I felt pretty full just not as full as the Caldwell sandwich which was tightly packed very clean to eat even though it’s lettuce and not bread (which does make it harder). Both sandwiches were extremely tasty. I would have to say other than the offense to my restricted diet and if I hadn’t been to the Caldwell one I would have said this is one of the better sandwiches I’ve ever had. The low ratings is because I do not think I should have to babysit somebody when I am very specific when they ask me “do you want fire sauce” and I said no I cannot have fire sauce and they put it on anyway I feel like that sandwich needed all of the scores to be low but the atmosphere is the atmosphere and it’s great in there.
I would give the meridian fat guys another chance if I had time to sit down and eat and when they made my meal incorrectly I could get up and have them remake it. But for my health I definitely cannot afford popping in picking up a sandwich and taking it to go because my hands are already swollen now & in pain and I ate that sandwich 2 hours ago.
We went on a Monday at 2pm and the place was packed!
Great service and amazing sandwich options.
We had a group of six and tried a few different sandwiches including a turkey club, hot pastrami, a chicken salad wrap and a salad and we’re not disappointed.
It’s in a nondescript business park and parking can be a little cramped but definitely worth stopping in.
Update: Waddled out of Fat Guys with a Silver Duck sammie. Some OTHER skinny guy made sure I got my delicious potato salad. Now I don’t know what to think. Maybe the CIA is involved?
