I had no idea they were once featured on Cupcake Wars! That little tidbit made the visit feel even more like a hidden gem discovery.
Inside, the shop is packed with personality. It’s not just about cupcakes — there are tons of fun t-shirts and quirky socks that practically beg tourists to take one (or a few) home. I’ll admit, I couldn’t resist. ♀️
As for the cupcakes, they’re stored in these giant clear bins — a bit unusual. They really don’t focus on the cupcakes which is interesting considering that’s what “made” them (cupcake wars). They have a few sprinkled around some ledges. I picked out a lemon cupcake with lavender icing and a red velvet cupcake (though it wasn’t exactly red) topped with white chocolate icing and Oreos.
The icings were very sweet and hardened quickly, giving the cupcakes a bit of a candy-like shell. Flavor-wise, they were pleasant but didn’t quite pack the punch I was hoping for — more sweet than standout. Overall, a bit disappointing. The price is high for what you get they’re small cupcakes (mine were lopsided about 1” thick and the other side MAYBE 1.5”)! Where I’m from you get JUMBO cupcakes that are moist and delicious for $3.50-4.50 each. I guess everything is bigger in TX (okay couldn’t resist that)
All in all, this is a fun little spot to check out if you’re exploring downtown Hot Springs. If you go in with the mindset of enjoying the playful atmosphere (and maybe a few novelty socks), you’ll have a great time. Just don’t expect the cupcakes to steal the entire show.
This cupcake was probably the best I have ever eaten. My family and I where stopping through Hot Springs, Arkansas, while on a road trip, and friends from all over the United States told us we had to stop at this cupcake store. I was not disappointed!! I ordered the lemon lavender cupcake and it was incredible! I was speechless! The flavors were so vivid and lush! I have had lemon lavender cupcakes before, and this one had more lavender flavor then any other I have had.
I had no clue that this store was featured on Food Network, but that made my trip even better!! Ten out of ten for sure! 🙂
After paying for the cupcakes (almost $10 for 2 cupcakes btw) I asked how often they bake and put them together out of curiosity and the young lady seemed nervous to say anything. Apparently, they bake the cupcakes every 2 days?! Frosting and everything, including mine that has cream cheese in the frosting?! And they just have them in these giant plastic bins on racks lining the wall, which doesn’t look nice, and makes the cupcake itself and the liner all soggy.
I ate mine anyways because it was expensive and I thought maybe they just got new ones in, and now I’m sick on our weekend getaway to Hot Springs. I should’ve known better. Not impressed, and would not recommend.
Ps, do not go here if you’re gluten free or have allergies. The cross contamination I saw was ridiculous honestly.
The packing process was lack luster and the staff seemed to just toss them in the box. Looked like a bunch of kids who did not care to be there. Nor were they thrilled about the pesky customers coming through the door.
The storage of the cupcakes was sketchy. They were in a bin and it seemed kind of unsanitary.
They had a ton of merchandise. But I wish they would put that effort into the cupcakes.
Save the money and make your own.
They have tons of cupcake flavors and we grabbed the best sellers that the staff recommended .
Quickly open the box dive Right In take the first bite and it was so dry and brittle. I decided to take a bite of another one thinking we had a bad batch. It ended with the same result.
There was much hype for visiting here today. However, the finished product we received is the same product that was on display when we walked into the shop.
Unfortunately our cupcakes were desperately on the dry side, and they contain no filling which we thought they would.
We left a bit disappointed However the atmosphere, during our visit was fun, and the employees working for very friendly.
To say that I would make a trip to Hot Springs to go back again would be inaccurate based on yesterday’s events.
But to each his own, as we may have just gone on an off day
