First time going to this restaurant as every time I’m near the fantastic smell of their food hits me in the face. Very authentic taste, the rice tasted like someone’s abuelita en el ranch made it (it was some of the best mex rice I have yet tried) everything was seasoned so well and their recipe’s call for a very generous portion of the meat that comes on the dish. I’m looking forward to eating here again.
Excuse the photos we were devouring our food.

The family and I went to eat dinner here and after we got our food halfway through I discovered a hair wrapped up in my chicken enchilada, I didn’t want to eat the tortilla. The guy comped my meal which is nice and I don’t know if there was hair in all of our dishes or just mine. I got a mint at the register and they charged me for that. I feel like I have a hair stuck in the back of my throat right now it’s very unpleasant. We have gone here times before and it’s going to take a lot for us to go back.

This is Tex Mex. If your burrito is topped with a sauce, it’s no longer a burrito. I swear the salsa is straight out of a generic brand Pace picante jug of salsa. Picture is of a real burrito compared to El Mucho tex mex burrito (I did ask for no sauce on my burrito but is came out rolled with open ends and melted cheese on top, again I’d say it’s a monstrosity and a crime). They also like to place you near the back by the noisy kitchen even when the front is preferred. Which begs the question of -do people just eat-n-run or is the staff too lazy and wants all the guest near the kitchen?

Very delicious food and very good pricing! If you treat the people who work there with respect and kindness they give it back 10x more.

My favorite food of this style on Noland rn.

If you’re going to be openly hostile to paying customers, at least try to hide it better. I showed up 30 minutes after i called in my order and I got interrogated by an old dude with a limp over a missed pickup from the day before like I committed a crime. he was in the back tor 15 minutes to get my order. That alone tells me everything. Showing me the call log after i denied failing to pick my order up and then hitting me with a fake ‘enjoy your food’ smile was wild. When I asked if I should be concerned, I got a shrug. I got my card back before he charged it but it took a struggle cause you could tell something was up and he was gunna charge me and make me eat whatever they did to my food. there are plenty mexican places in independence do not go to this one.

Great service and nice people. Food was really good. Our waiter forgot about us but they were busy and the people next to us dined And dashed so it was interesting.

Why are there green beans in the rice? And Lima beans …in the rice?
The chips are thick, the salsa is runny and bland. The cheese tastes weird and the beef has no flavor.
Food came quick though and they weren’t busy at noon so I guess those are a plus.
We go once a year to see if they have gotten better. Always a no for us.

Wasn’t the best or worst experience.
The food was ok. I’m picky with my chili relleno and they’re good.
The soft taco was loaded!

They forgot to bring a side order we asked for. But they got it out half way.

Had to open the front door for someone to come out the back to pay out.

I love El Maguey, but I’m disappointed. First, they’ve started charging for cilantro, and for onion, (separately!) on their tacos, which is unheard of, but I accepted it. BUT they also put those tacos on flour tortillas, which is unforgivable. I think they serve some of the most authentic food in KC, but there’s nothing authentic about tacos on flour tortillas. If nothing else, they need to change the picture on the online menu. I would’ve asked for corn if I’d known the picture was a lie.
