I went between lunch and dinner to try them out. The menu is overwhelming it’s hard to read. The waitress brought me a soda when I asked for water and I didn’t see her again for 10 minutes. I had been eating chips and salsa and my mouth was on fire and I had nothing to drink. I started to leave but she finally appeared apologizing. So I ordered what I thought was chicken with beans & rice with cheese sauce. What I got were 3 very thin over cooked pieces of chicken with beans and rice, no cheese. I tried cut up the chicken it was so tough. She finally came back around and I asked her for a small thing of cheese sauce. She brought back a big cup that I was charged an extra 6 bucks for. I was ready to leave. I have tried the El Charolais on Door Dash and it was good but the one near ETSU is lacking in the taste of their food. I thought they were affiliated but I guess not.

Very good mexican restaurant with decent menu. If you like fajitas, try their Fajitas El Torito. Large portion size, and lots of flavor. Service was a bit slow but pleasant.

We are lunch at El Charolais near Kroger today. The food was absolutely fresh and delicious. Our server was very personable and attentive. We had enough food to take home some for later. Outstanding value at a fair price. Overall this is my favorite Mexican restaurant in our area and I have lived here for 50+ years !

My niece found a roach in her chicken here. The explanation we were given was, ‘sometimes chicken comes with roaches.’ She ended up sick, and despite a verbal promise from the restaurant to cover her hospital bill, we haven’t heard a word back in a month after multiple attempts to settle this privately. I’m not sure what’s more concerning — the roach, the excuse, or the disappearing act afterward.

The Salsa is spicy and wasn’t a fan of the Al Pastor but the rest of our food has been the best we have had around here. The waitress was very nice and never let my cup go empty! We have finally found our go to Mexican restaurant!

Top Notch, one place the entire family agrees we love, queso dip, salsa and chips, service is outstanding and the food is so fresh it’s like eating in the kitchen. The staff treat you like family. We don’t talk about the other Mexican restaurants anymore, it’s too painful.
Go here, there is a wait sometimes but well worth it and where I come from 1.5 hours can be common so get used to it folks word is getting out. Seriously thought I had reviewed them two years ago but my brain must have kept it secret for me.

El Charolais is a gem in Johnson City for authentic Mexican cuisine. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and served in generous portions. Their fajitas are sizzling perfection, and the tacos are packed with bold, traditional flavors. Don’t miss out on their house-made guacamole or their refreshing margaritas. The staff is attentive, friendly, and ensures you have a wonderful dining experience every time. If you’re craving real Mexican food with a welcoming vibe, El Charolais is the place to go!”

Our first time here, highly recommended by my cousin. Food was very good. Mom had grilled shrimp (medium size for all you shrimp lovers) with mushrooms and rice. I had shredded beef tacos, rice and beans. The beef had a flavorful red sauce. I also brought home for hubby, the Chile Colorado. He said it was pretty darn good.

By FAR the absolute worst Mexican restaurant, and restaurant in general. Everything was so soaked that it was SOGGY. The tacos I ordered to go weren’t even in a ToGo box, they slopped them all together then wrapped them in multiple layers of aluminum foil. I couldn’t even open the foil without pieces of metal breaking off and going into the ‘tacos’ (they were no longer tacos at that point, it was just a big mashed together soggy slop, completely inedible). Absolutely absurd and completely unacceptable. I literally couldn’t even eat any of the food I ordered due to it all being a soggy slop and having pieces of aluminum foil scattered through it. And on top of all this, they charge WAY more than every other Mexican restaurant I’ve ever been to – despite having the absolute worst food and putting the least effort into food preparation. Literally had to throw all the food I spent $50 in the trash due to it being an incredible thrown together soggy piece of slop. I should absolutely be given a refund this is in no way shape or form acceptable to charge someone ANY amount of money for this, let alone 2x as much as any other Mexican restaurants would charge. I’m legitimately in disbelief over how horrible the food was and how horribly it was packaged and how expensive it was all to be completely inedible and thrown in the trash.
