Oh mama are we glad we did! A short while later, we had a super-hot bag of some fantastic smells that we quickly took up to Sunset Park. We grabbed a picnic table, unpacked, and dug into some of the best Mexican food we’ve had in years. Both the vegetarian taco salad and the vegetarian quesadilla were chock-full of multiple vegetables cooked appropriately, i.e., the mushrooms were cooked through with a bit of edge browning, the tomatoes cooked to bursting, and the multiple types of peppers had a bit of char while retaining some crunchy crispness. There was other stuff in there too, but you get the point. For the vegetarian folk, cheese and sour cream are included on the dishes. A small container of super fresh salsa was included for adding to the dishes as desired and a small container of spicy sauce was offered (and accepted) as our food was going in the bag. Don’t turn down the spicy sauce … it was seriously good and had excellent kick.
Drinks must be purchased at the adjacent Moonshine Market gas station which seems a fair trade between business owners for letting this small food truck use the side parking area. That said, making use of the two picnic tables behind the Market may not be the highlight of your dining experience, but if you are willing to make the short drive up to Sunset Park, your food will be at just the right temperature when you get there to not burn your tongue and, bonus, there is a view!
I recently had the pleasure of dining at El Carretón 2 in Waynesboro, and it was an absolutely delightful experience. After watching a beautiful sunset at Waynesboro Sunset Park, I was craving some authentic Mexican food, and El Carretón 2 did not disappoint.
I was thrilled to see they’ve opened a second truck at this location on 101 E Main St. I had previously tried their other truck in Grottoes, Virginia, and was blown away by the quality of the food there as well. It’s clear they’re committed to bringing delicious Mexican cuisine to the area.
This time, I ordered the Colorado burrito, and it was phenomenal – packed with flavor and incredibly satisfying. My companion opted for the vegetarian burrito, and she raved about it. It’s wonderful to see they offer such great options for vegetarians.
What truly made the experience special was the owner’s genuine passion for good Mexican food. He took the time to come out and chat with us, sharing his love for the cuisine and ensuring we were enjoying our meal. His dedication to quality and customer satisfaction really shines through.
If you’re looking for a late-night meal in Waynesboro, I highly recommend checking out El Carretón 2. Its convenient location near Basic City Brewery and The Foundry makes it the perfect spot to grab some delicious food after enjoying the local attractions. Come check it out – you won’t be disappointed!
Licked the plates clean before I even took my phone out.
10/10 would come back again!
